Literally my reaction when I ordered them and received the news from the waiter.

Every time I hear Jethro's mentioned I think of their boneless bbq dry rub wings. Probably my favorite menu item in Des Moines.

So CBS holds the rights to any restaurant named Jethro's because of a show they aired 40 years ago?

The original lawsuit against Jethro's, if I remember correctly, was unauthorized used of the character...so yes, I would assume that someone holds the rights. I'm not a copyright/trademark/contract lawyer so I'm just working off of assumptions. I'm assuming that they hold some trademark rights to the character and the use of its likeness and royalties have to be paid. I too am assuming that is the "agreement" that Jethro's has with CBS. Hence why "Jethro" himself is ******. He seemed to think that he had trademark rights...which in turn is why he is going after CBS.

There are a lot of guessing and assumptions in that statement but hell, it is the internet.

I'll do you one better on the assumptions....

Royalties for the Beverly Hillbillies aren't rolling in like they used do and Mr Baer's acting career took off in the same trajectory his hotel/casino chain did, and he is desperate for one more payday.

This was my thought as well.

Although - another article suggests he maintains he has rights to the Jethro's character. That may be why he seems to be going after CBS and not Jethro's directly.
Especially if CBS made some sort of deal with Jethro's behind his back. I guess it all comes down to who has the legal rights to the name and/or image

my favorite is the casino/hotel portion of the agreement. I can totally see that happening. :jimlad:
What kind of gambling would you have in a hillbilly casino?

What kind of vittles would they serve at the buffet?
Would they have a water show out back by the cement pond?

Why would an actor hold any rights to a character? Shouldn't all the rights belong to the character's creator, who can then sell those rights to a studio so they can be put on film?

My wife's favorite. I'm usually not big on a sweet taste like that, but I really enjoy them, too. In fact, most things about Jethros is good. Since we live in Altoona, though, we go a lot and sometimes I just get "Jethroed" out.

Just change the name. He should have just done it six years or so ago when the first lawsuit came about. People don't spend **** tons of money at these restaurants because of the name.

One of reasons for Sambo's restuarants' demise was the name change to "The Jolly Tiger". If I am not mistaken, Jethro's on 22nd St was once a Sambo's before Hooters. Best place to go at 2:00 am for breakfast when the bars closed when I was in college.
