Cutler never played a down for McDaniels. Shanahan was fired and McDaniels was hired. Rumors then surfaced that McDaniels was trying to work a trade to move Cutler and get Matt Cassell from New England. Cutler felt betrayed and demanded to be traded and the rest is history
