Spelling on the last name anyone? Anywho, i was told his stats were 17 td's 6 ints, and surprisingly so it checked out. Clue me in here. Every time i saw him play he looked like a bag of dog turds. However his stats say otherwise. i assume they got padded some in the Indiana game(among others?) as they were getting blown out early

Wasnt the Iowa fanbase calling for his head earlier? Whats the deal? did he mop up on the crap of the big 10 late?

I have a good friend whos a hawkeye homer, so i just let the guy vent. his latest diatribe was that without injuries and arrests Iowa would have been going to a BCS bowl this season. Furthermore he said this team will be again competing for a BCS bowl. jake was sacked some 40+ times, so i think the line could be suspect as well.

Hes enamoured by all phases of the Hawks for 08, but to me it just looks like a very young team for next year. I dont eat, sleep or breathe hawkeye football so I need osme questions answered.

17TDs isn't much in 12 games. Basically the only thing he did well was not throw INTs.

I don't know what the numbers are, but I don't think his completion %, or yds/completion or total yards are very good either.

I never understood why people let what some fans says get to them and have to "report" back. So what that some Hawk fan said "we would've been to a BCS bowl without injuries or arrests".

I dunno, the whole thing seems kinda silly to me - the he said, she said type of stuff.

Anywho...

Jake looked decent in games and then in others, completely confused. I think they'll be unsettled that that position going into next year. I guess they have some kid coming in next fall they think will be pretty good - can't recall the name off the top of my head. And, they have Jake's back-up returning, same guy that got a DUI.

In Jake's defense, it wasn't like he had good receiving options to throw the ball to.

Jake isn't a bad QB. He's just not all that accurate. Basically, the throws that he would miss were totally uncatchable balls that couldn't even be intercepted.

I think Iowa set a record for most punts and most 3 and outs this year. That's what bothered the Iowa fanbase. Jake puts up some decent stats, he just didn't decide games.

With how young he was and how young the receivers were though, I think he'll be solid next year.

I also wonder if he is going to go through what Meyer went through. Getting hit all of the time and not having time to throw to open recievers. He may become gun shy.

Heres the thing. the guy was hyping up jake for next year to me, and im sorta scratching my head. my impression of him was not that good, but for sake of argument, im curious on account of all thier problems. All I could really say is that they played a share of underclassmen at WR this year that should benefit from this next season.

A major reason he didn't have a ton of int's is that a lot of his misses were really bad misses. No one would have been able to catch the ball. Throwing a 100 mph fastball on a 5 yard crossing route at the reciever's foot won't get you a lot of int's but it will get you a ton of incompletions. I'd be curious to see what his completion percentage was. My guess is not very good at all. The 17 td's does surprise me. I didn't think he had that many.

53.5%. Not great.

Even Cotler said we might see McNutt starting next year. COTLER. That guy will go out of his way to defend guys to the bitter end.

David Blackwell is the QB coming in next year that is *supposed* to contend for the job. Mobile QB, and had some fantastic stats in Florida. He's being compared to Brad Banks, but at this point, comparing any Iowa player to the 2002-2004 squads seems a little ridiculous.

Iowa fan's favorite player is ALWAYS their back-up QB. Heck, chuck long probably got booed.

Seriously? I have never heard this guy's name until now. If he is better than JC, McNutt, Nelson, and Stanzi, that is a LOT of guys the staff missed on. Plus, he is listed as a safety on Scout and an ATH on Rivals. Plus, if we've seen anything from Ferentz, it's that there is no way in hell a true freshman will start over experienced players. No way that happens.

Ok, can someone fill me in on why we even care about this and are wasting our time discussing it? I have a hard enough time paying attention/caring about ISU things to even bother paying attention to what the Hawk fans think about their QB. This is all you ever need to know about Iowa QBs: their backup QB is the best QB in the country and is wasting away on the bench.

I dunno, I like talking about sports and the team I like discussing the most behind the Cyclones is the Hawks. I can't think of new threads every day.

As for Blackwell, here is a quote from somebody on the hawk boards:

"If you guys actually think that Blackwell will come in early, rehab great, then win the starting QB job over JC, McNutt, Stanzi, Nelson, then please....pass me the bong too. I'm not saying that he can't do it, I'm saying it is extremely unlikely and you need to lay off the mary-ju-wanna"

Iowa is also the only school that recruited him as a quarterback. I really don't think that equals playing time as a true freshman coming off an ACL tear.

Right, I wouldn't think he'd start over anybody either. Of course, the reason you'll hear people clamouring for him to get the call is because a mobile QB is all the rage these days. He could be good, bad, whatever, but I doubt he gets the start over JC, McNutt, Stanzi, etc...

Meyer threw 9 TD's and had 13 Int's. Meyer completed 61% of his passes. I would have been happy if Meyer would have thrown for 17 TD's. We might not have stalled in the Red Zone consistently and won a few more ballgames.

The final pass he threw in the Oklahoma game (I believe) to end it still gives me nightmares. A 5-yard knuckleball pass thrown 15 yards wide of the receiver into the ground. If I were Meyer, I wouldn't wait by the phone on draft day.
