One of JP's published, competitive goals is a Top 50 finish in the Directors' Cup all-sports standings in 2009 and in the Top 25 by 2011.

"We finished in the 58th place in 2008 which was a 15 spot improvement from 2007. That remarkable advance compares favorably with our most-recent five-year average finish (82nd) in the cup". re: "Investing in Cyclones Excellence" August 2008

Question: How far away are we from the stated goals? Can we make a Top 50 all-sport standing by next year?

Interesting. While slow, global improvements are being made.

While slow, and dangerous behind the wheel, old people can still serve a purpose.

I had it going from Pollard to Old People in 3 posts...

Which reminds me, I have a photo from freshman year that I keep meaning to scan in... some people in the front row of Cyclone Alley with a sign that says "Old People Stand up".

Aaaaaaaaaaaand now I go run and hide from the can of worms I just opened...

I think Football and Mens BB can directly impact our standing. Volleyball is getting much better. Wrestling is always solid. Womens BB has a ton of momentum. The track teams seem to be making progress. I don't know if we even get credit for hockey. I think the other sports have good coaches and potential for success. But, anytime we start to get better, another school (that can pay better and properly fund the program) will try to take away the coach. If we can find coaches willing to do their job "for the love of the kids, and love of the game" we achieve more universal success. It would be awesome to be a contender in every sport. The reality of our finances makes that difficult to accomplish.

Heh, this is a rather common problem. I've heard both in person and otherwise chants of 'Stand Up Old Folks' coming from both sets of Assembly Halls (Illinois and Indiana), but yes nice work on the can o' worms :notworthy:

The lack of baseball and m swimming will hurt the directors' cup standing. I don't see how we can get into the top 25 without bringing those back first.

I'm sorry for bringing this up but it should be metioned.

I think your right. Outside of FB, MBB and golf we were in or near the top 25 in every other sport last season. Being better in FB and MBB should get us in the top 50, but I don't think we will be able to get to the top 25 with out adding sports.

No, it won't.

You'd have to make the NCAA Tournament for baseball to get ANY points. Swimming would provide a few points, but no more than track and field. ISU would need to almost DOUBLE its point total from 2008 to get where the #25 team finished.

Well old people, we definitely need to settle our differences. You guys always give me bad looks when I drive by the coffee shop. But you guys drive like complete fools! When the speed limit is x, the universal speed is x+5, not x-5. And you do not have to wait at the stop sign for other cars before you can proceed.

I know we have our differences, and I think it would be a good thing if you listed your complaints about teenagers in a similar form that I have above. We just need to get a feel about where the others are coming from. Thank you very much!

Sorry if this offends, deal with it

How much of that goes to building funds and the other expenses?

How many more points would the ras'lin team get up with a National Title? Would that be enough points to get in the top 50?
