Were you one of those thinking Fred promised a national title at midnight madness?

They didn't need to. The field is always the most probable outcome, and some generic stock answer provides nothing.
Nope, I did believe that Matt A. actually believed he was going to win a National title. Not could but would. I believed they could not would. That is why Matt A. leaving bothered me. Either he was full of **** and I am a sucker for buying into his enthusiasm (don't get me wrong, i thought he was delusional but loved that he aopeared to truly believe it) or this season gave him a dose of reality. I am guessing the latter and that has as much to do with Darian Williams leaving as anything (or the former either way I would be ticked as a recruit). He bought into the dream to and realized with Matt leaving the dream was a mirage and as you said the field is always the best bet.

Now do I think Diallo will go here? Odds are the field, could he? Absolutly. You were speaking pretty concretely. But sounds like we agree.

Somewhere in the U.S.
I wanted to see Williams at ISU because his abilities and style of play seemed to be the perfect fit for ISU, and he seemed like the perfect replacement for Hogue......plus he had 3 years to play. On the other hand......he is also a Juco transfer, so there was no sure thing either. Remember Bluford?

I also hated to see Custer leave, but in both cases, I can understand what the players did. I'm not saying I agree with their decisions, but that this is the nature of college basketball today. These players are usually stars in their respective high schools, so if they do not get enough playing time (even if the players ahead of them are better) or if they think they are not going to get enough playing time, they bolt for what they think will be a better situation.

I'm also perfectly confident that CFH will put the four scholarships he has available for next year to a use that will favor ISU in both the short and long run.

I pretty much think that the talk about this being a sign of CFH going to the NBA is nonsense. I think he is a pretty decent person, and I really can't see him convincing TJ to move his family back to Ames if he is planning on leaving any time soon. I also don't think TJ would take that chance......even if there was the possibility of him taking CFH's place. There is no way that JP or CFH would or could guarantee that to him.....imho.

Williams will be far better than any player that has transferrd out under Hoiberg.

There are a lot of conspiracies that Matt A is screwing us over on all of these recruits but I just don't see it. Diallo was always a long shot, it's much more likely that on the last visit he told Matt he had a hard UK lean based on who leaves. Matt A leaves for SJU and uses his relationship with Diallo as a bargaining chip to help land the job knowing the Diallo ship is likely leaving port. Then on the Williams front, he likely was having second thoughts all fall and winter living in CA and Matt A was the reason he was staying. Without Matt A to help guide him to ISU he asked for a release from his LOI. No doubt it hurts, but it's not a big blow to this coming season and I'm confident that CFH and TJ will line up some solid guys to fill roles this coming year and into the next season.
Pretty rational.....you do know this is the Internet right.

There's got to be something not being said. But I don't buy the 'Williams likes ISU if Matt A is here but bolts if he leaves' story.

In the randy P article he wouldn't comment if he'd still be here if Matt stayed. But says no other schools have contacted him? Doubt he leaves without contact from Matt or another school.

Time will tell I guess. My hope is he ends up at eg AZ and this was just an excuse.

I think the loss to UAB, being at home then and Matt leaving was the straw. He had bought in to the Matt A. National Title crap. That is why he said he signed at ISU. A lot harder to believe that after UAB and the salesman bolts for a bubble team.

Here nor there
We don't even know how good he'll be at this level and have no clue who will all be on our roster in 16-17
Diallo is unproven at this level and is thus a minor player, let KU have him.

Williams was one of our best recruits in the past couple years and more importantly fit Hoiball and our needs. He would have played more than Nader did this past year and was not a minor player like losing Custer.

If he left for anything besides playing time, he will regret it. As for the team, they will find a great replacement and life will go on. Sad to see him go, but not going to worry about it.
