"They aren't that good. I think we can beat them at home."

My man crush just became man love. Can we apply for a 6th year "Program Hardship" for Rahshon?

Another play just came to mind. No doubt Collins (a smaller quicker player) faked Rahshon out of his shoes. After the play the camera caught Rahshon laughing at himself. Kind of like a cornerback, when you are the team's best defender you have to have the confidence to shake those plays off. I just wish we could figure out a way to get him a little more involved on the offensive end. Maybe a alley-oop (sp?) play out of a time out?

Which reminds me. I don'r recall any KU alley-oop plays. First time in a long time. Damn I hate those.

Get a grip, im sick of this worship of Kansas

They are a excellent unselfish team. Thats it, no more no less. Im worried il drive by the steps of Hilton and see bloody corpses sacrificed in the name of the Jayhawks. If ISU made any 3pt shots and Jiri wasnt so lost it would have been the 12-15 pt loss i thought it would be.

Hmm i recall that Peterson was so

horrible and worthless according to the experts here that he would have 30 turnovers and never once get the ball past mid court against Kansas. I thought he had one of his better floor games considering his teammates play and the quality of opponent.

I am so flippin sick and tiried of you... All you want to do is sit back and create a problem. Either grow up and be a man or get the heck off this board. You never say anything unless you put down other members or put down the team. We don't need people like you.

I'm a nomad.
Is anyone else a bit annoyed that we kept running that same play on offense where a guy on the high wing would get a screen set for him, which pretty much everytime led to a missed 3 point attempt. I think we ran that same play about 50% of the time on offense, and I don't think it worked once. I know that McD is a big set play guy, but I thought he had like hundred of sets in his "playbook". I think we saw like 4 max in the game last night. Maybe he didn't want to show them all of his goodies in this game, and was saving things for when they come to Ames.

when they come back to hilton we need 3 things if we want to win
1. Wesley to hit some dang shots
2. Diante Garrett as our starting point guard
3. A little Hilton Magic.... no wait, A LOT of hilton magic

KU is obviously a very good team. I doubt they go undefeated but they do have Final Four potential.

What I find interesting is how many of you bemoan the fact that ISU was "ice cold" and KU was "on fire"...there was a simple reason for this...KU was shooting a large percentage of their shots from point blank range and ISU was shooting a large percentage of their shots from beyond 19-9.

The reality is that basketball is a game best played "inside - out" rather than "outside - in". We played "outside - in" all night long and it is a recipe for losing...especially to a very good team like KU. KU played "inside - out" all night long and took care of business.

KU is certainly a tough team to grade your team out against but as someone said in an earlier post, a very good team like KU can expose a team's weaknesses. Having said that, here are my observations:

-Peterson did a very respectable job of running the point.

-We need to be running more of our sets to get Rahshon something moving towards the basket (back-door, alley-oop, etc.) because he can really finish.

-We got absolutely "schooled" inside at both ends of the court...our post defense was nearly non-existant (KU typically caught it in the lane and dropped in a jump hook on offense)...and our sets on offense looked like we were content to just chuck up three pointers all night. I did not follow McDermott's coaching career pre-ISU but I have heard many on this site say that he is great at "developing big men"...I hope it starts happening soon.

You knew we were in trouble vs. Kansas

when Haluska, Peterson, and Thompson were in the game vs. Rush, Robinson, and Chalmers. That is why I hope our recruiting efforts pick up a ton in the 5 years. The 2010 class could go a long way to doing that.

And the other guy must have heard that word for the first time because he was giggling like a school girl about it.

Did anyone else think that Jiri looked lost out there tonight??
I agree 100%. He would get position for the rebound, but he would get out-hustled for it. He was out at the three point line way too much, and he played soft. He looked like he regressed back to his sophomore year.

Its just frustrating to watch the inconsistent play of Hubalek. I dont get why Mac hasnt put a kabash to him shooting 3's.

McDermott and Rutter have both said that Jiri is one of the best shooters on the team and that they need him to establish that shot to draw his defender out. This will create more looks for the rest of the guys and make it easier for him to make post entry passes.

It just seems that Jiri doesn't take his long range shots in the flow of the offense, and they are usually when our rebounders are out of position.

Him taking threes also seems to make him forget to play the post afterwards sometimes.

My observations:
#1 Peterson should not be our starting PG
#2 Waaaaaaaaay too many threes
#3 not many second chance shots

I agree with these three observations, plus a fourth:
4. Weak Post Defense - Kansas could score in the paint at will. I saw this in the Alabama game earlier this year. ISU's bigs get pushed around by strong 4's and 5's.

I think alot of this was more poor team defense. Our help was late or didn't come at all. Kansas didn't try to play straight up against our post players, they were double teaming all day long. What makes us think we can expect our post guys to man up one on one with theirs?

Guys - this is what happens when the other team has better players at every position. I mean it's hard to say that, but the guys who come off their bench - Kaun and Sherron Collins - would have started and played 35 minutes per game for ISU this season.

Flush this game, forget about it. It's a road game at Phog Allen, and it's not a terrible thing to lose there. I wish we would have played better of course, but it is what it is.

I didn't read the previous 10 pages so maybe all of this was said already. But I'm still gonna give my 2 cents.

First, I drank a lot during the game so keep that in mind.

Second, KU could be the best college basketball team I've seen since North Carolina won everything a few years back (the year Morgan's team play them in the dance). That UNC team had about 5 guys go NBA following that year. I think this KU team could have 4 or 5 legitimate NBA guys.

Third, when KU went to their bench, they are bringing in 5 star McD AA guys. ISU goes to there bench and brings in a walk-on. I just don't see how we (or any other team) can compete with that.

Fourth, I liked our effort. Shots weren't falling. The 3 was either going to kill us last night or give us a chance. We couldn't hit a high enough percentage of 3 balls. This team NEEDS 3 point sharp shooters to complete McD's offense. Lucca and Wes E will help tremendously next season if they are as good as advertised.

Fifth, when Jiri gets in foul trouble that early, it creates all sorts of problems. Even when he is in the game, he can't play aggressively on defense or offense since he is trying to avoid another foul.

I'm just glad that game is done. I hope the players feel that it was just another loss and don't feel demoralized. There are a lot of winnable games remaining.

Go cyclones!
