If the Texas schools are leaving why can't the big10 take in ISU,KU,KSU, and ND if they can get them for 16 teams? If the big 12 is done we need to start looking before its to late.

One of the things I took away at the Nebraska presser today was the "comfort level" claimed for each other by Neb and the Big 10.
If I were Geoffroy and Pollard, I would commence a "barnstorming tour" of every Big Ten campus, armed with a presentation to each univ. president of ISU's academics, culture, values, fan loyalty, and mission, to underscore why ISU is the logical next choice of the Big Ten.
Also, we have TONS of great faculty here, some in high positions, who have Big Ten degrees - but also love Ames and Iowa State. Have ALL of them write or email every Big Ten president, telling them of their love for Iowa State and the Big Ten, and detail why it's a perfect match.
But then, I'm sure they're working on something...aren't they?

be nice people, it is his first post. On the other side of things, we would have better luck starting a 5 team bcs conference than the Big 10 taking us.

I will be nice and explain it. The big 10 wants to add teams that currently are not in a tv market that is paying $.75 a month to the Big ten network. Since all of Iowa is already paying this vig, ISU is not in play. It needs to be a market that is not currently paying the subsidy to the big 10 to make them worthy of an invitation. Academics and athletics are not really a factor, it is all about adding paying customers to the BTN.

Why not have the Iowa conference merge into one large school - then they could petition to join the new Big 12 as a replacement to Nebby. At least that about as likely to happend as the Big 10 asking ISU to join.

I don't think we will see anymore expansion out of the Big 10 until/unless Notre Dame agrees to join. That is by far their biggest goal, and I don't think they will fill up other spots until Notre Dame is a lock to be one of them. Iowa State wouldn't be one of the teams as mentioned by many posters since they aren't adding televisions.

I am fairly sure that JP's broadside shot last week at the Big Ten Network is a solid indication there is no way we get a Big 10 invite. If there was even a 1% chance, he would not have taken that jab.
