Here's a little tidbit...

"A little out of the city on Highway 13, the South Shore Cardinals have put together a fabulous season, going 22-0 and winning the Indianhead Conference West Division.

The Cardinals have put up some of the gaudiest statistics of all time in high school basketball. Megan Gustafson, a 6-foot-3 sophomore center who already has a scholarship offer from Marquette, currently leads the state in scoring at 31.5 points per game. Her sister, Emily, a 6-2 senior who is headed for Upper Iowa next year, leads the state in rebounding with 18.3 per game, and junior guard Janice Anderson currently leads the state in assists with 8.2 per game.

With more than 1,100 points right now, Megan Gustafson is on pace to be very close to breaking the state’s all-time scoring record set by Jolene Anderson, who scored 2,881 while also playing for South Shore. Ironically, it is Jolene’s sister, Janice, who is helping the sophomore Gustafson climb the scoring chart and threaten Jolene’s mark.

No competition, you say? When those “nattering nabobs of negativity” said just that in 2004 about Jolene, she responded with a 46-point, 28-rebound effort over the defending state champions in the state semifinal game.

How can a tiny school this small have such talent? Basketball is important at South Shore. The WIAA lists the school as having 42 students and 27 of them play basketball. If you had that same ratio at Superior, coach Phil Roe would have around 500 girls out for basketball."

The most surprising line in the article to me was at the end: "but they are still looking at a few 2014 prospects." Bill usually doesn't like a full roster, but it's possible that there's one or two 2014 recruits out there that are still interested in ISU and good enough that you need to take them even if you use all 15 scholarships.

Gustafson sounds like a great player. Here's hoping the visit goes well.

I was thinking the same thing about our future roster number and maybe that we may lose someone (HOPE NOT!).

I have heard of South Shore but ignored the excitement. Being such a small rural school it is more curiosity, I believed, that the school was hyped. But reading that article I see I was way wrong and maybe there are shades of Megan Taylor in Gustafson.

Mred, any chance you might double check the 2014 list? The main top 100 I see still on the table is Michelle Nwokedi, which would be an awesome addition.

Any word on her visit to the Jack Trice melt down?

Hopefully our gals reminded her we are a basketball school.

Wonder if she will be able to make it down for a game at Hilton? I know that might be hard with her own HS schedule but we have the best fans in women's basketball.

I'm laying odds that Frau Bluder is up to her old dirty recruiting tricks. She used to spread all sorts of nasty rumors about Coach F. when she was a Drake. She doesn't so much sell you on the school as she does give you reasons not to go to the other places recruiting you.
