With my freshman orientation coming up in the next couple of day, I wondered when everyone else had or is having there's, and how it went.
I have the pleasure of waking up at 3 in the morning Tuesday to get there on time. But it'll be well worth it when the Fall comes around!

Orientation was boring as ****. Can't speak for the overnight stuff since I had a baseball game and didn't stay overnight. Don't be afraid to get digits of cute girls so when you come back in the fall you already have a fallback.

It's cool just being on campus and setting up your schedule for next semester.

If you're interested in the Greek community, try to contact rush chairs from houses you may be interested in and you may be able to stay with them, too. That's what I did when I had my orientation in '05. This could also let you see the house and members (at least those who are there for the summer) in a more "normal" mode rather than at an organized rush event.

Given how bored I was at the various orientation activities, I'm glad I didn't stay in the dorms.

My sister went up for her's just a couple days ago. I remember mine being really boring, but it was still exciting just being up in Ames. But I honestly don't remember a thing they told us at Orientation...

This. Everyone at orientation is overly excited about starting their college experience. Get as many numbers as you can as it's always good to be one of the first guys they are introduced to. This will also open up easy doors for people to go out with that first weekend other than guys from your floor (trust me you'll have plenty of time with them) and also opens up all of the girls who live on the one's you meet at orientations dorm floors.

Does anyone do Destination Iowa State now? I feel like a ton of people skip over that, but I thought it was good. Yes a little boring at times, and you could be out partying, but it's a good way to meet people away from your floor. Also if you find a cool leader they can be your over 21 connection.
