I am an ISU grad and have always been a Nike guy. Worked in the ISU athletic department in college where I was required to wear nike and I didn't have an issue. Out of college, I got a job with Texas Tech Athletics where I was required to wear Under Armour. I was skeptical at first but I must say, besides the shoes, I love UA. In fact, I refuse to wear Nike now unless it's Iowa State gear or running shoes. UA's quality is much better in my opinion. Love their outerwear as well has their casual clothing/golf line.

I'm not saying ISU should switch to UA, but we should definitely weigh our options and see what kind of money we're presented with when our contract runs out in 2018. I have full confidence in Jamie Pollard when it comes to making this decision.

Cool - I guess it isn't realistic to expect it to be made in the USA but as far as I know nobody in Bangladesh ever tried to off me so I'll go that route.

Right, forced labor/re-education camps.
I don't think the 12 year old kid that made that hat ever tried to off you but to each their own

I know all about the forced labor/re-education camps. Communism isn't my thing but it does seem to be growing in popularity. To each his own.

Why does UA have outlets that sell carryover items for 30% off? Sports Authority was notorious for not marking things down. Look at their going out of business sale where they advertised discounts, but still had their stuff at regular retail price.
UA has outlets now themselves so they can regulate the mark downs rather than the other typical retailers. They also have companies send the discontinued items back to the manufacturer so they can put them in the outlet stores. Sure, TSA was supposedly higher, I never saw it, honestly I saw higher prices at Scheels. My wife worked at both, I worked at TSA. TSA was completely backwards by the time they closed, hence the reason the CEOS are still trying to get paid bonuses....

All this talk of either Nike or UA... Are there any other brands that may be up and coming that would be worth taking a look at?

With a brand new staff and the possibility of conference realignment, maybe this would be a great time to find the next big athletic brand while they are still young! Trends come and go, and a new brand WILL eventually show up just like UA did. If we were to be the team that discovered them first, it would be huge for ISU.

If Puma wanted to dip in to college athletics that could be an option.

Nike had to catch up to what UA was doing in order to compete. I also worked retail for 13 years and most of the time I was at Sports Authority, UA clothing is never marked down unless it comes direct from UA. Nike, ADIDAS, etc.. all get marked down by the retailer. UA knows people will pay full price for their items...
This is the dumbest thing to come out of retail in the last few years. People don't think of things better because they don't go on sale. All that does is make me mad and not buy from the company. We always shop at Kohls because of the sales regardless of actuall cost it feels better. I won't buy Nike shoes anymore because of the policy that they can't be part of their sales.

We left over 40 years ago, boss.
My dad served and left a leg there. My father in law served and came back intact. Neither one has any relevance to me when I see where things were made.

So, what you're saying is that you really have no idea how he feels since it wasn't you over there right boss?

Not everyone was lucky enough to come home with the mindset your father and father in law came home with.

Sure, boss.
40 years later is usually time to move on. Sure, one of the guys in my story drank himself to death, but I don't blame Vietnam for that. That's on him.

Just like this guy. It's a personal choice, but the more mature choice almost always moves on. It's just a hat.

It was Russell Athletic, so there may be some truth to that.

It was sport by sport. We had Adidas for basketball during same time period. Crazy enough, one of the reasons KU went to Adidas, is they agreed to pay for all sports uniforms. KU had Nike obviously for the major sports, but was shelling out for whatever in the Olympics.

My dad served, his best friend from high school was killed there, his other good friend from high school suffered flash backs until he committed suicide. It doesn't affect my decisions but is sure as hell affects my dads. Just like my grandfather who was a WWII pilot in the pacific wouldn't buy anything made in Japan.

I think it's very tasteless to tell a vet of a war "it's time to move on".

There is a point where it is unhealthy. You have to accept that others are humans as well and they aren't at war anymore.

I'm kinda with you on this. I used to only buy Nike. This fall, Coe switched to Under Armour and I've purchased a lot more of it. For the most part, it is a lot more comfortable than Nike. Only drawback I've found so far is their sizing seems to be different between items than Nike was, but I'll get it figured out.

I own Nike and UA, both stock and apparel. I buy what I like and I like both, depending on what I'm actually buying. I literally don't remember ever caring where something was made.

Maybe Reebok or Converse will make a comeback.
