In the KSU game, David Montgomery had 9 rushing attempts and Mike Warren only had 6. Montgomery also seemed to get the ball in the more crucial situations.

So is Montgomery now our feature back, or was this just situational to this game?

Discuss.

Something is up with Mike Warren. After the game yesterday, Campbell was asked about Warren's usage, and he said “We had a chance to win the football game. Next question."

Earlier in the season there were questions about Warren's work ethic and how he did in practice. It sure seems like those questions still haven't really been answered.

I don't think there is a question that Mike Warren is the most skilled running back on this roster, so it's gotta be a behind the scenes issue.

Warren came out of the game after a hard hit on his lower leg. Prior to that Campbell, was rotating Warren and Montgomery each series, it appears playing them equally was the goal. Personally, I'd rather see Warren in their getting the most snaps and carries. But, Montgomery does look like a pretty good RB too.

Nice first post. Must be a passionate subject for you to get you to speak up.

Explore some punctuation with the same passion and your post would be readable.

Montgomery looked better than Warren yesterday and if you listen at all to Campbell, he puts a lot of stock in practice effort/results. Not hard to imagine that Montgomery has caught and passed Warren on the depth chart. Is it not possible that ISU has two 'quality superstar type running backs?' Not that I think either are super star quality, Big XII caliber at best.

Hop back on the CPR or whomever train you like. Looking forward to your 2nd post.

Pretty much when the staff came to Ames Mike Warren was preached about being an NFL RB.

That just isn't true anymore, he can't catch and he is fumbling prone. I love Mike and I really hope he can turn it around but right now I get worried everytime he carries the ball and it's obvious with this weak line he is too hesitant.

If park can stretch out the defense more maybe we will see Mike get bigger runs but right now he hasn't been as good as last year.

Watching from the JTS stands yesterday, to me it appeared DM was quicker with moves and more tenacious running than MW. IMHO, Montgomery now is our best running back.

What's changed with MW from last year to this? His OLine. Not one starter from last year is back on the field this season, and what is on the field is a patchwork of walk-ons and some not ready for prime time players. Coaches would be nuts to employ MW in the same way this fall as he was used last fall. The blocking ain't there.

It isn't the running backs, it's the OLine. These coaches have to develop an attack unlike last's year's running attack, it appears. And, they're doing a great job. Yesterday, using both QBs in the same drives was an example of their ability to do whatever possible to give their team any sort of advantage.

CMC has said in recent weeks the MW hasn't earned it in practice and in attitude.

I think Montgomery>Warren right now for whatever reason? I'm not sure why, he just looks better to my eye.

100% agree, and I think it's just because Montgomery is really good. He definitely breaks more tackles that Warren does.

The more I think about it, I feel like the staff wants a power running back and a passing QB. Wheres Lanning and Warren are a power running QB and a speedy/shifty running back.
