Fanatics -

Just wanted to touch base with you all regarding our mobile app.

As most of you know, it currently does not work. We are fully aware of this. Here's the deal. In the past, that app has done nothing but lose CF money. It takes away pageviews, ad impressions, etc. Plus, there's a bit of an ownership issue between the app developers and CF.

We fully understand how important being mobile is. If you go to CF's mobile site, Jeremy has done a great job with it. I actually like it better than the app itself. We still lose impressions and revenue when folks visit the mobile site but this is something that I'll spend a lot of this week working on.

Having said all of that, if you or someone you know builds quality apps and would be interested in a project like this, please shoot me an email to [email protected]. I'd love to consider you for this project.

Chris

Have to agree that the new mobile site you've (or Jeremy) put together is even better than the previous app. More features, easy to use and easy to read... Apps typically are a lose money or break even project, so the decision makes perfect sense to me!!

I have a dumb question...how do you get to the mobile site? On my phone (droid x) it just brings up the regular page. Usually it automatically redirects to the mobile one on other sites.

I like the new mobile site far better than the app (and it doesn't crash all the time). If the mobile site had a "new posts" button on every page, I would be more than happy if you never did an app.

This. A million times this. I realize there is a "What's New" link on the homepage, but this is not really convenient for those of us CF addicts who need to constantly refresh.

This. Add the new posts feature and the mobile site would be perfect. (And maybe a way to look at the social groups)

I really like the new mobile interface. I agree that it is much better than the app, which I'm probably going to delete as soon as I get around to it.

Big thumbs up from me on the new mobile site - basically relegates the old app useless so won't feel cheated deleting it.

One specific thing I like about the mobile site is that it is quick and easy to navigate (or is that two things?).

Agreed with others that if you can get new posts on the mobile site (like we have on the desktop site front page), i probably won't even need an app. Even now when i want to browse from my phone i just use the desktop view.

The old app i was never much of a fan of anyways. It never could tell you which posts were unread or accurately display timestamps.. and was just clunky in general since the company that made it never updated it. I always just went to the CF site from my phone's browser.

Once you have changed the site if you go to - Setting - More - Add shortcut to Home. It will create a link on your home page on the Android phone for easy access. Make sure you have a blank slot on the Home Page.
