Eateries:
DaVinci's Pizza Campustown. 292-3003. I remember the phone number 30 years later. Tell you somethin'?
Thumb's Up. Yep - used to be a restaurant. Pasta on Sundays. Loved it.

Drinkeries:
That Place. I still want a basket of peanuts and a cold pitcher.
Tradewinds. Potlucks, game watches, loud music, whatever. Always a good time.

Combined:
Dugan's Deli West Street. Awesome food, drinks, and bands.
O'Malley McGees South Duff. Great food, service, & drinks.

Gotta say, DaVinci's had the best cheese steaks ever. And O'Malley McGees had really good fajitas. Floods took that place out.

I think OSHA needed to regularly test the hearing of employees there. Every time I went to Yokes late night, my ears rang the entire next day.

We usually ventured over there after a few mugs at Cy's. That made it seem like a good idea

Duh!
That whole side of Duff has changed. Bowling Alley, Happy Joe's, Hardees, Ruttles, Fox Lounge, Sprint store.
Last Happy Joe’s I was still able to get to. Taco pizza and Canadian pizza were the best.

It's been through several tenants since it was Benson Motors but the people who own the land now are tearing down the old building. Anyone know what's going in there?

If I had to guess, I'd say a strip mall or some other type of commercial space that could be leased. Gary Thompson bought it from the Benson family and Gary rarely sells anything. None of the previous occupants could make a go of it there because the rent was so high that it was impossible to be profitable. With the property taxes, it costs a fortune to sit empty.

Considering the value of the dirt, a strip mall is probably the best use in regards to rate of return.

Cocost was my favorite for cheap Chinese in high school and college in Ames. Their prices really started jumping before they closed. So sad. Probably wasn't that great in hindsight but I loved that place with all my heart. May House is still one of my favorites, too.

Northwest Bank bought it from Thompson a few months ago. They are currently renting a small space by Dutch oven Bakery. So this will likely be their full scale e permanent location once built. I've heard there could be one or two additional spaces for businesses to go along with the bank. I'm glad its finally being redeveloped.

2 for 1 fajita nights were great.
I always got the layered enchiladas with the egg on top.
Charlie Yokes

Mojazz. 4-fers.
Doughbiz (sp?) so good!
They were on Welch once upon a time. Business is now for sale. (Can't find a buyer)
Pizza Kitchen’s on Hayward. I worked there in college.
In the basement? "Crock pizza" IIRC

Cocost was great. Had that microphone he'd bark the order into.
I think the meals were huge for like 5 bucks.

That seems to be a trend with these smaller regional banks. That's what First Federal did when they built in front of Target years ago. Honestly, I don't know how any of them could generate enough income to cover the overhead without lease income.

Wasn't O'Malley McGees originally Carlos McGees but they got sued and changed the name? So long ago memory fuzzy.

Yes. I think some restaurant in Florida threatened to sue. And my memory not so great either.

Oh man, Doughbiz brings back memories. I remember my mom taking my brother and I there - the Welch Ave location - every once in a while when we were in grade school.
