A pankcake house is supposedly going in the old Happy Chef/El Azteca building on Dayton. Don't know what affiliation it will be with.

I was just going to say the same! They're still around (under a new owner) on E Lincoln Way. Chef's Special Chicken is still the best thing on the menu!

I miss the Mandarin. House of Chen makes their Mongolian Beef similar to that of the Mandarin, which is my fav. Still wish someone had the recipe for the Mandarin's sizzling rice soup.

There is a Minsky's just south of Country Club Plaza in KC. I'm pretty sure it's the same company.

I think it is- At 2000 KC tourney we ended up in a bar not sure which one but my friend Sue was like hey..... "You remember Minsky's pizza on Duff, this is Mike"

O'Malleys had 2 for 1 fajitas on the first Monday of the month. We would drive up from Des Moines with some friends and leave so stuffed and happy. Best fajitas I've ever had.

I worked at O'Malleys as a cook and it the most fun i've ever had at a job. Sometimes at the end of the night the managers would say "everyone stop what you're doing!". Then they're bring 2 pitchers of beer into the kitchen and hand everyone a straw, split us into 2 groups and have a pitcher race. There were lots of other examples like that.

Loved (and never missed!) Twofer Tuesdays at Do Biz!

FYI...still a DoBiz in the skywalk downtown Des Moines.

I miss:

Serpico's (sp?) Pizza (short life on Lincoln Way but was awesome and cheap!)
Dugan's Deli
Fish bowls at Lucillan's (sp?)
Rocky Rocco's
Thumps Up (when on Welch Ave) - G and T night!
Hardees (on Welch) "Dollar Days are here again!" (great for poor college kid)
WC Franks (Stanton Ave). Footlong chili cheese dog.
Loved Duggies.

I havent read all of this thread but there use to be a pizza place ( i think it was pizza anyways) inside North Grand Mall right next to the movie theater back in 2007ish, they had the absolute best smoothies I have ever had, no smoothie has ever come close to what they made, they were pretty popular, saw their smoothie cups everywhere when I was at the mall and I would always take them into movies. Hard to describe but their main strawberry smoothie almost tasted like a daiquiri but it was incredible, what I would pay to have just one of their smoothies.

A very nice Asian family owned the business I think, my memory has faded. I cant even remember what it was called, went out of business around 2008-2010.
