The Beer Baron over near Torks. We lived around the corner from it and would just walk over with a handcart to pick up another keg when having a party.

Friends used to stand out in front of their in High School and ask people to buy them beer if Pamel court grocery turned them down. One night.... "sorry son I'm the superintendent of schools and that would not look to good"

Way back in the day, we used to eat dinner at Lucillans on Friday night just off the happy hour food. Cheap student survival.

Aldi moved onto Duff behind Texas Roadhouse/AutoZone
The Super Walmart is where Dahl's used to be. The old Walmart I believe is parking.
OP went out of business. Landlord issues + sales issues.
Anyone remember when there was an indoor go-kart place near there? I think it was a Save-u-more before that.

Did that a Thumbs Up, they had pretty decent free food. (Well it seemed pretty good a long time ago.)

It may have been because I was pretty small then and didn’t really drink beer out of a real glass made out of glass that often, but the beer glasses at Thumbs Up seemed huge. That was definitely a one beer happy hour for me.

This reminds me of another ISU RIP (although both have been replaced/no longer needed). Strange Search and Strange Talk. The VEISHEA Riot photoshop thread was one of the first I ever participated in.

Strange Search was just amazing. I'm so surprised they even dared do it with all of the Napster stuff that was going on at the same time, but I hoarded music.

Napster? Wow! I forgot all about that lawsuit
View attachment 53998

I remember when all these lawsuits first started coming down I got a letter from some movie studio about downloading some terrible movie illegally from Kazaa. They were suing for like 100k, and they sent it to my home address as I downloaded it over break. My parents about crapped themselves, I said lol and threw it away.

Another big RIP goes out to Peterson Pit. They cut down the trees you could jump from and banned alcohol and all the fun was gone. Used to be a must be place in Ames during the summer.
Just recently I mentioned swimming at the Roland gravel pit years ago. Someone looked at me and asked "you swim in gravel pits?"

There was some guy on Kazaa that had incredible copies of movies. He must have had some real insider stuff, he had his own logo that he would append to the front of movies. He had one of the Star Wars (I think Phantom Menace) available on Kazaa 3 days before it hit the theater.
