I'm starting to like the idea of Tulane as #12 for the conference

If adding Tulane as 12 is an indication that the B12 is taking a long term view than i'm all for it.

Tulane=Northwestern,Vanderbilt etc.

BYU puts the conference into 3 time zones. That is not appealing for scheduling. Not to mention BYU comes with alot of baggage (special requests/demands) that does not allow for conference unity. I think the BYU ship has sailed.

I live out here in Las Vegas area and go to some UNLV games. I hear alot about when BYU was in the Mountain West and sounds like it would be best not to have them in BXII. They want everything their way and think they are the ND of the west! Sound like they are a bigger pain then Mizzo.
Louislle football is Ok but the basketball would be great. Colorado State sounds like a good fit. CSU has been out playing Colorado for years.

I've come around, too.

But it's mostly for the idea of staying at 10 teams. Much better for conference cohesiveness. I paid more attention to the schools in Texas this year, with the round robin schedule, than I ever did when we had divisions. And this conference needs some bonding time!

Yeah... no.

Theyre the 3rd team in that area (and a very, very distant 3rd at that).

Hell, id rather get the conference into Florida and add USF or UCF before adding Tulane. That survey of fanbase size had USF and UCF at about 5X that of Tulane, and with both of those schools being in the top 10 for enrollment (both at about 50k, UCF being the #2 by enrollment nationally), an elevation to a league like the big 12 would likely increase that, especially for a school like UCF that as been mired in CUSA obscurity.

Maybe it could help us get back into florida for bowl season as well.

Tulane biggest positive are AAU status & increased footprint. I'll welcome them in with open arms as number 12. Would become our Vandy, would take them a decade to get up to snuff in everything but baseball.

you got to look at them as how the Big12 would present them: Academic School, new commitment to athletics

PS: Need to look at what Rice is doing right now. Rice & Tulane are two AAU schools in the footprint who are taking major steps to make themselves attractive

My bottom line feeling is that the 12th school will be a AAU school. That pool is Rice,Tulane,Rutgers

Something OU will never be.

If we are talking La schools what about the ragin cajins? Just kidding,Tulane is looking like a darkhorse that wouldn't be too hard to get to the level of a Cincy or a Kentucky.

If we were going to take Cincinnati or Rutgers to get to 12 I would much rather have Tulane than either of those or pretty much anyone else that I can think of. The problem is that would take a long term plan and a vision of the conference in 10 years. The Big 12 has neither vision or a a long term plan from what I can tell. I think they could be pretty competitive in 10 years if they got the money and the right coach.

Would everyone still be for Tulane if it means we (the rest of the B12) have to subsidize them? There would be a drop in TV revenue.

Well, I'd take Rutgers before Tulane, but not completely opposed to Tulane. Could phase in revenue. Would certainly be a destination away game for the league. I am completely against Rice. TCU keeps us in the Texas area the same number of times as with Tammy and I am against making it any more of a Texas-centric league. Any more and it will seem like we are trying to reform the SWC. As it is there will be 5 Big 8 and 4 SWC teams. No need to go 5 to 5. Also not down with ND for non-football only. That just sets a precedent for Texas to one day to the same.

I did not even take this argument for Tulane seriously when it first came out, but after doing a little research I am definitely warming up to the idea. Being an AAU school is a huge plus, and there is some great potential in Tulane.

I really dont see how there is much potential. Small fanbase, small school (you're not exactly building alumni quickly), in a distant 3rd behind LSU and the Saints. Its not like Louisiana is huge on population to make up for that. (The USF\UCF options are definitely not the top schools in that state, but you have almost 19mil in Florida, vs 4 mil in louisiana)

Sure, theyre AAU. But so are a bunch of other universities that have no business in the big 12.

Have any of you ever been to Louisiana? When we came back from Louisiana, we about pulled over and kissed the ground when we were reentering Iowa. I really do not like the idea of Tulane, heck how would that really help recruiting LSU would get the pick of the litter, and Tulane probably would get there share.

lots of people in the Big 12 say the same thing about Iowa. Just sayin...

Geography. Main reason I like Tulane over Rutgers as well. Florida isn't anywhere close to the footprint. Only school I'd take in Florida is FSU and that is a long shot.
