I think it's be neat to see the big 10 go big on this one ans steal nebraska, missouri and Iowa State from the big 12 and then the big 12 could become a more southern conference and add Houston, TCU and arkansas.

Just imagine;

Big10 west: Nebraska, Iowa, Missouri, Wisconsin, Illinois, Minnesota, and Iowa State
Big 10 east: Ohio State, Penn state, Michigan, MSU, Indiana, Purdue, and Northwestern

each team would play two other teams from the other half of the conference and then the champs from each side would meet in the final.

mizzou and ISU get more exposure, nebby get more $ and can schedule oklahoma every year in order to renew that rivalry.

Too bad this will probably never happen...

I realllllly like this idea.

I'll bet I'll my credits that if Mizzou does leave, Oklahoma and Texas will NOT be in the same division when a new team is added.

Pretty sure it would be Arkansas. They are the red headed stepchild of the SEC and I've heard from many of their fans they would fit better in the B12. They also recruit Texas a ton and the majority of Texas kids are B12 fans.

I'd be shocked if it wasn't Arkansas.

Now...here is a thought...it might not be necessary. What if Mizzou went B10 and simultaneously Colorado went to the Pac10. IT COULD HAPPEN. That leaves a South dominated 10 team conference. What happens then??

Do we take the name Big 10 and the Big 10 becomes the Big 12??? LOL.

Man...one thing I realized when looking at adding a Non BCS team.

Stadium Capacity

TCU - 44K
Houston - 32K
Tulsa - 31K
BYU - 65K
Utah - 45K
Memphis - 65K

ISU catches a lot of crap for our stadium and its (hopeful) renovations will bring the total capacity to 60-65K. I couldn't imagine a 31K stadium in the Big12.

There is no way another BCS team from the Big10 or SEC joins the Big12. Unless they are into losing money and exposure.

I honestly think the best team to replace Mizzou or Nebby (which probably won't happen) would be Memphis. They have nice facilities for basketball and football. They would bring instant success in basketball and they have the 44th TV market. If we lose Mizzou we would totally lose #21 St Louis and some of KC.

My preference would be this
North
Oklahoma
Nebraska/Mizzou
ISU
Kansas
K-State
Colorado

South:
Texas
TT
A&M
OSU
Baylor
Memphis

There would be no drop off in competition and this would balance out the conference. I would love to see the battle between OU and OSU regarding who gets to go North. Okie State would have won the division that past couple years.

what makes the big 2 unique is that they could lose several teams and still have many viable options of competitive schools. you TCU, houston, rice, utep, tulsa, memphis, and the new mexico schools that arent part of a big conference but could do just as well as some of the current teams in the big 12. And as long as they have texas, they dont need to worry about media markets or money.

Pitt and Rutgers could both lay claim to having access to large TV markets as well. Rutger is 25 miles south of NYC, and Pittsburgh is a far better sports town (at least for college) than St. Louis. KC is a good college town.

Geographically, the Big 10 is all ready as far East as State College, so adding a Rutgers or Pitt doesn't seem to be too outlandish. You also have to keep in mind that just because Mizzou has said they're willing to talk doesn't mean that the Big 10 is going to ask. In the past, whenever the conference has looked to expand, they've always looked East or within the geographic "footprint."

I don't think Pitt adds many TV sets. A lot of those people probably catch Penn State games as well. Rutgers I could see, but Mizzou already has Big 10 rivalries, and NYC, while obviously being a huge TV market, isn't as into CFB as KC and St. Louis.

I know the Big 10 has looked east in the past, but with Penn State being the independent giant that they were, it made total sense. I just don't think Pitt brings much more than say, ISU. Look at their attendance. Slightly larger, but not by much. Most of the State of PA is PSU country, and Pitt is little brother. Yeah, they play in a large city, but a lot of those people are PSU fans, too. Rutgers brings more to the table than Pitt, I think, but Mizzou makes more sense geographically than Rutgers, as Iowa, Minnesota, Wisconisn, Illinois, and NW are reasonably close.

Arkansas would seem like the most logical replacement, but I don't see them giving up the money they get from the new SEC TV deal and regarding Wyoming that was mentioned earlier in this thread, they struggle just to maintain the minimum requirements on attendance at home FB games to maintain their FBS status.

and how will the divisions look like

if its TCU that would be 5 Texas teams and 2 Oklahoma teams in the Big 12 so how would split the teams up

they wont split up Oklahoma and Oklahoma State or Kansas and Kansas St

They probabley want to keep Texas and Texas A&M in the same division as well for their rivalry

East Iowa State, Kansas, Kansas State, TCU, Texas, Texas A&M
West Nebraska, Colorado, Oklahoma State, Oklahoma, Baylor, Texas Tech

Your divisions wont work because Oklahoma has to play Texas every year!!!!

So Oklahoma would have to be in the east and TCU would have to be West!!!!

I hope you realize that not playing Nebraska is gonna cost ISU a ton of money and also tv revenue!!!!!

If there is a restructuring of the Big 12 and OU and UT end up in opposite divisions, the Big 12 will finally get around to changing the schedule rotation so that OU and UT will still play every year. Having them in different divisions creates the likelihood that they will meet in the championship game for a real conference championship, which the Big 12 wants.

And this is the first time that anyone has used the argument "ISU would lose TV revenue." :wideeyed:

You guys that want TCU must love that this conference is already focused on the state of Texas and want more. Maybe Texas is just slowly accumulating the conference it always wanted. A bunch of Texas schools OU, OSU, and Ark. With this move they would be pretty close.

I agree with tcu all you do is replicate the southwest conference...If mizzou leaves the brains...now there's an oxymoron...in Dallas will have to come up with a school/ market to replace all the tv sets in Missouri!!!!

Any expansion for the little 11 formerly the big 12 will have to be west...aka Utah...BYU....someone of that nature to fill the void...

The alternative is that the tv revenue will go down cause no one is gonna pay big bucks to see tcu play on tv................

Commish beebee better get down on his hands and knees and cut a better deal with mizzou or its gonna be splitsville for the big 12 non revenue sharing league!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I see losing missouri as a terrible thing for ISU. We are already the Northern most team in the Big 12, and losing Mizzou would isolate us even more if they put in another texas/southern school. I don't agree with the people who claim we "can't compete" in the Big 12 as it stands, but the further and more southern dominated the conference becomes it does become more of an uphill battle. I would push hard for a non-texas/ south team to come in, but I don't know who that would be.

Of those listed, which does everyone think would be the most likely?

Utah - This would add to the conference, but is it in Utah's interest to do so? They can get to the BCS easier in the MWC and they would be leaving their natural rivals behind.
Air Force - This would be cool, but I don't think it would add much to the conference revenue wise.
Colorado State - This adds less that AF. Last resort in my opinion.
Wyoming - Doesn't add much interest or money.
BYU - Similar draw as Utah
Boise - Decent football team, but not much else. I don't think their TV draw is that high and probably lower than Utah/BYU.
Tulsa - Makes the most sense geographically, but does not add TV sets. Small school with decent athletics.

I can see Utah/BYU joining the Pac 10 before either would join the Big 12.

West Virginia is right on the border with Pennsyvania and Ohio. They might add more to the Big11 than Pitt or Rutgers. WV is a good football state and WVU is a decent sized school with good football and basketball teams.

Do you really think Boise's tv draw is lower than BYU? If you're talking regional tv's maybe, but I think nationally Boise has the most interest of any non-BCS team. Maybe they would lose their "underdog, can't-get-respect" appeal joining a big conference though.

I was just thinking regional Idaho TV sets. I am probably just talking out my behind though.

I also just hate BSu a lot!

I'm not a big fan either, but I think it may just be the sexiest pick if the Big 12 finds itself losing Mizzou. Would be the biggest logistics hassle of any school they'd go after though.

Not even close academically. At all. Not enough TV sets either. I'm starting to think that ND joining might not be as insane as once thought. The reason being: Big 10 Network. Run with me on this, but 5 years ago, Notre Dame would have significantly lost TV exposure by joining the Big 10. Not so now. Also, if the Big 10 REALLY wants Notre Dame, I wouldn't be stunned to see them allow ND to bring their NBC contract to the Big 10. This would cover all of their non-conference games, and it would actually allow the Big 10 to have more games on TV every week. They'd have the Notre Dame game on NBC, their ABC/ESPN slots, and the B10 Network for everything else. I understand there is the revenue sharing aspect, but it clearly hasn't hurt the Big 10 powerhouses like Michigan, Penn State, and OSU from a financial standpoint. I think this could happen.

The bottom line is that Notre Dame to the Big 10, even if they lose a game a week on B10 Network is going to generate a TON of interest nationally, and help the Big 10 AND Notre Dame's national image.

I think the only reason BSU has any national appeal is because of their status as a mid-major. They lose that in the Big 12. Plus, I think playing a BCS schedule they wouldn't be the top 10 team year in and year out like they have been.

Plus, what does Boise have for athletics outside of football? From what I can tell, their football stadium isn't even that big. I can't imagine that they have great support for their other programs either.
