Why on earth would you take recruits to Hickory Park? The food there is nothing but average, long lines, and a noisy environment.

I hope you're kidding. I honestly cannot think of a better restaurant for recruiting than Hickory Park. Not that it's the best food in the world, but there's a reason why it's so popular. Ask yourself this: Have you ever been to Hickory Park and left hungry? Have you ever been there with someone who left unhappy? I haven't and I've been there hundreds of times. Selection, decent quality and portions, that's why the average person has a good experience there. When you take out the wait factor, it's hard to beat...especially when you are bringing a large group of people.

So, I was at Perfect Games bowling last Friday night. We were probably there for about 15 minutes and low and behold, in walks PR, WB and other various members of the coaching staff. They apparently were entertaining some recruits. This confessions has nothing to do with them. It has to do with the following act or lacthereof that I committed:

So, we're bowling. Two people enter the lane next to us and begin to bowl. I assumed it was a date of some sort. My buddy comments to me that the guy is jacked and must a be a football player. I take a glance and sure enough, it's a pretty big guy. So, being the football junkie I am, I am trying to determine which player it is. I scramble my brain for about an hour while we bowl. He looks so familiar but I just can't put his name to his face. I finally give up. Then it's time to go. I walk outside and what's the first thing I see? The Wilson Toyota Cyclone truck. It was Tron Smith. I failed to recognize Tron Smith. What a stupid I am.

Who is Tron Smith? And, more importantly, why is he famous??

He was a Backup QB at Nebraska back in the day under Frasier. He works at Toyota of Des Moines and is usually C Willy's partner in crime for most tailgates prior to kickoff.

I ate dinner after the OSU game a few years back with coach McDermott, his wife, and others. Ironic that we joked about Wesley leaving early if he kept up his great play. He played great that day if you remember.

So this year, I went to a football game in Ames and acutally saw Iowa State football players on the field. WOW. It was incredible!! You really took the time to start a thread to tell everyone you bowled next to a salesman???

I saw FH at a Kum & Go in Ankeny a week ago. He was eating a breakfast burrito and washing it down with a Red Bull.

I might as well add to the randomess of this thread.

I saw C-Willy at the bar last night along with Adam Carper. I had a CF shirt on earlier in the day and then changed before going to the bar so I couldnt show off my CF shirt.

Two stories:

1 - Back in early 2000's, stopped at the Southgate gas station for a gas fill up and saw LE's much storied RV that he was driving to an away game, then watched him walk out of the store with a case of beer and some other fellas, it was keystone, I believe. Should have seen the signs. Still a great coach.

2 - The Friday morning after Culbertson kicked five field goals to beat Iowa in '07, he stepped onto the CyRide bus I was riding from MWL. I flashed the front to the Daily (with his picture on it) and gave him a thumbs up, then spontaneous applause broke out on the bus. Good times!

In 2009, when I was in Las Vegas for Nationals, I stayed at the Riviera. Must have used the same urinals and toilets as the Rat Pack.
