Can you imagine Tom Farniok's parents...FOUR D1 linemen...that's one entire income going to milk, bread, and breakfast cereal.
Ya, but they didn’t have to pay for college. So that helps a bit.

Wow. Two quotes from that article:

“When me and Coach Campbell sat down, we had a great conversation,” he said. “It brought my mom to tears. It touched hearts, and we have a great connection.”

“Iowa has a place in my heart,” he said. “I always grew up liking Iowa. My favorite college was LSU and then Iowa. Iowa was the big name here in Iowa, but now it’s the Cyclones.”

My biggest take away from that article is that Iowa felt like a business, and Iowa State felt like a family to him. That's why Campbell has had so much success on the recruiting front. Also sums up why Deyo picked us pretty nicely.

I think this was a big reason. It's all about recruiting the moms. Always has been and always will be.

I know chizik was douchey but even he made the comment that you have to get the mom on board or it is way more difficult.

This was the one that caught my eye:

Deyo says the option to play on either side of the ball was another element in the Cyclones’ favor.

“Of course, I’m going to go in as a defensive lineman,” he said, “but if that doesn’t pan out then I have the chance to play on the other side of the ball

I managed to get tickets at the last moment for the OSU upset in 2011. I couldn’t believe Trice that night.

My gosh, I can’t believe it’s been ten years already. No wonder they picked OSU for Homecoming this year. Once upon a time, it would have been the KU game in a heartbeat.

I had someone offer me tickets at the last minute, and couldn't go :(

Didn't Cheez have a high level recruit (Johnson?) that sent his LOI and his mom started a **** storm because she wanted him to go to an SEC school? Worked out in our favor since the kid was 18 and did not need mom's permission.

Hopefully she kept the SEC cash even though she did not deliver the goods.

Got your pedantic pants on today do you?

Not at all, and screw you for implying as such. I really do want to know what makes a 5-star receiver. I think even Hakeem was only a 3-star and I would have called him a so-called 'stud' too. Re-reading my post, it does probably sound like I was questioning the poster's evaluation. So I'll apologize for that part. But thanks so much for your critical analysis and interpretation. After all, I did learn a new word... pedantic.

Hakeem was only a two star. Not only ability, but polish and refinement go into it as well. We haven’t yet really gotten the ones topped out on all three.

Hakeem was a two-star, and probably the poster child for someone who was under scouted. He moved from Maryland to Texas, started playing football his sophomore or junior year, and then the Texas equivalent of the IHSSA ruled him ineligible his senior year for transferring schools. He had very limited film.

Yeah, agreed. I’d guess that had he been scouted more Hakeem would have been a high three star at best. Besides ISU, his best offer was Houston and he was very raw.

Edit: Then again, maybe he would have had more offers if more scouts has seen him.
