Unfortunately, today many 'dogs are made from mechanically deboned meat rather than from beef, chicken or pork trim and cuts. MDM is awful, nasty stuff that is a paste like substance after the mechanism removes meat from bone.

After 25 years in the meat business, I don't touch hot dogs anymore.

I worked on dairy farms for a few years too. Cottage cheese was never the same for me after that (though I still love it).

I think you have to have a certain amount of cognitive dissonance in order to eat any sort of food you work around for long enough that is derived from animals, to be honest.

Its funny how humans have evolved isnt it? Some countries still have raw meat hanging in markets all day with flies all over them. To them its no big deal. Buy it and throw it in a fire pit. Such practices would make us sick over here. I watch alot of Andrew Zimmern and some of the stuff he encounters turns my stomach, but those people have done that for 1000's of years. Weird stuff. Fermented meat always gets me.

I worked dairy at Hy-Vee in high school and part of college. It took me awhile for me to drink milk after seeing some of the "science experiments" that were forming on some of the milk crates and carts.
