In need of hotels and dining recommendations in downtown Minny. We have stayed at Crowne Plaza and Embassy Suites before and were ok but looking for something new. Good and bad comments are welcome. Thanks!

I would second the Hilton, it is very nice. Just remodeled within the last few years.
The DoubleTree was pretty nice. I don't remember it being quite as fancy though
I've also stayed at the Marriott, it was a pretty sweet room. and the hotel itself is quite nice

For food, I would check out Hell's Kitchen for breakfast. It's to die for!!!:swoon:
(sorry, couldn't resist)

I agree on the Hilton...very nice and upscale. Stayed at the Hyatt Regency 2 weeks ago...very nice rooms, nice sports bar on the ground floor.

Places to eat:

Steak: Manny's. Can be pricey but it is by far the best steak I have ever had. Consistently ranked in the top 10 steakhouses in the US.

Seafood: McCormick & Schmick's. Ate there 2 weeks ago...seafood is flown in daily and the prices seemed low to me. And of course the food tasted great and the chef wanders the restaurant talking to patrons. Great atmosphere. Also have heard great things about the Oceanaire Seafood Room, will have to go there on the next trip.

The Radison on the campus is really nice. Right next to all the sports complex such as their nice aquatic center.

I second the Oceanaire!

Best seafood in the midwest!

they used to have a CigarBar/Smoking area that was nice too.

I must stop for my family.

Downtown marriott was nice, great hotel. Good thing our group didn't stay there we would have gotten lost in there, and that we were only visiting the team.

Last time I went with friends we stayed at this place:

Downtown Minneapolis Hotel - The Westin Minneapolis - www.westin.com

It was awesome. We also ate at this place:

Mancini's Char House - St Paul, MN, 55102-3091 - Citysearch

Great steaks and neat atmosphere. Pretty expensive though.

Mancini's is great! While in college we had our baseball awards dinner there every year. The owners always make sure to take care of everyone, really good atmosphere as you said. It is a good change of pace from the upscale chains.

If you're looking for a hidden gem, try Matt's Bar at Cedar and 35th. It's definitely nowhere near as nice as some of the places on here, but it has the best burger in Minneapolis. Order the Jucy Lucy.

If you're staying in downtown Minneapolis you gotta go to Fogo de Chao.

Brazilian steak house, they just bring you skewers of delicious delicious meat. Last time I went I got down 5 bacon wrapped filet mignons among others.

Now I'm drooling....

Welcome to Fogo de Chão

Look up Buca di Bepo for best Italian.

Minneapolis, MN - 1204 Harmon Place

Buca di Beppo Italian Restaurant

Buca is good for feeding a group of people but there is better Italian around.

figlio -> uptown's iconic bistro

Much better food and atmosphere IMO and many interesting places to explore in the Uptown area.

Try using OpenTable Restaurants and Restaurant Reservations to look at some restaurants in the area, lets you break it down by cuisine or neighborhood and you can make the reservations for most places online.

I could suggest SO many things, but it's more the local vibe. Don't really know what you're trying to go for. As far as downtown eating, most of what people put on here are spot on.

If you're getting outside of downtown, there are all sorts of really good restaurants in some cool neighborhoods. It all depends on what you like, where you're going, and what kind of an atmosphere you are looking for...
