I personally loved the show overall. The comedy itself was nothing groundbreaking, but the overall plot device was an original idea that was a great way to get people to bear through some bad episodes (and seasons, like the last one) to continue ratings through the end.

I also don't get the hate for Big Bang Theory. Is it cutting edge or anything? No. But not all sitcoms need to be. It's a smart comedy that appeals to the masses. I actually consider that more like Friends than I do HIMYM.

I know we've had the "why I hate BBT" discussion many times on here, but I'll reiterate my stance. It's just so cliche. I have many, many acquaintances and friends who are "nerds," am probably one myself - the characters on BBT are so rote and one-note, they're caricatures of what a smart person should be. It's just really pandering and doesn't try very hard, IMO.

not sure a single season show like Freaks and geeks should be that high. Definitely not better than scrubs.

I love the poignancy and angst in F&G. As a big fan of the early Scrubs seasons (and watched all of it), I would agree that it shouldn't be higher than Scrubs - but it was a great show. It captured teenagers in a way that I don't think many other shows have, except maybe "My So-Called Life" (another one-season show that probably deserved to be on here).

The lists definitely shows the age of most of the people surveyed.

- Scooby Doo (The ******* Flintsones made it, but not Scooby Doo?)
- The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson (not sure if talk shows were omitted)
- Hogan's Heroes
- CSI (unless I missed it, I'm really surprised this didn't make it)
- 3's Company
- Magnum PI
- Barney Miller
- WKRP in Cincinatti
- Coach
- Home Improvement
- Knight Rider/Baywatch - no Hof anywhere??

No soap opera was listed, yet some of those have been on the air forever.
Plus, I guarantee shows like Love Boat, Fantasy Island, Dynasty, etc were on a lotta tv's in the 80's

Home Improvement and Family Matters not making it are kind of a surprise to me. If you were making a list of all-time favorite TV characters, Steve Urkel and Tim Taylor are in the top 100 for sure.

the past 5-10 years I went through my favorite tv series slowly and rewatched them 2-3 episodes a week.
Seinfeld
Curb Your Enthusiasm
X-Files
Star Trek TNG

Still like all of them just as much as when they were new. Star Trek and X-Files have a few stinker episodes but not many consider they are 7-9 full season one hour shows, it's a marathon to watch through either but you still really want to. I think Seinfeld was a lot funnier to me now in my 30s than it was in my 20s. Also having lived in big cities for so long as opposed to growing up in Iowa I think I relate better to it now.

I can't believe how high some of them are. Big Bang Theory, How I Met Your Mother? Those show are so not funny to me.

It's a good look overall of popular shows. I actually like Friends a lot but #1? No way. I would put a lot of comedies higher than that including Arrested Development (my #1 of all time), Seinfeld, Frasier, Modern Family, VEEP.

I cannot believe Game of Thrones is top 5. What? I like that show too but come on. I do love that X-Files is way up there.

I appreciated the episode of X-Files where they went to Spirit Lake, IA - you know, the one in the woods with a mountain as a backdrop.
