Dad got out of hospital Saturday around noon but has a heart test Friday.

Woke this morning to get news from Mom that my aunt who lives near San Diego passed away last night.

Her and my uncle thankfully had made 2 trips to Iowa in the last year so I had gotten some in person visit time.

She had a pretty bad stroke 6 years ago but had recovered remarkably well.

I won't get into details but the last decade for me has seen a significant amount of death whether it be older friends of my parents, friends I met in my time in Madison, school/classmates or family my age and up.
Getting older just kinda sucks in that way.

For me the grief is more how it's hurting my mom losing a sibling. I recently watched Forrest Gump and I line that always sticks with me is "Mama said that dying is apart of life. I sure wish it wasn't.

I'm in a mid 40's and have both parents. My mom and dad both lost their dad's in their mid 20's.

I lost my dad in my early 20s. My mom is in her 80s and I have been trying to prepare myself for at least 5 years now. I'm sure I am going to be a wreck anyway. She raised us alone for most of my childhood.

I'm the reverse. My mother died of a brain aneurysm when I was 23. My father passed away in July 2020 at the ripe old age of 96.

When I'm at the grocery store, I will sometimes glance at other people's grocery carts just to see what they are buying. It is crazy to me how much soda/pop people drink. Most of the carts are half full of soda. A lot of people must drink crazy amounts each day. Even if buying diet soda, I don't understand how these people have any teeth or stomach lining left with all of the acid from the soda they are consuming.

My house buys a handful of 12 packs a year. I have had 2-3 pops this year, that is more than the previous 5 years combined. Yesterday was due to the crappy Casey’s I went into was out of iced tea and lemonade and I am trying to get off energy drinks now. So I was extremely limited.

Have you been peeking at our cart???
Lew buys Pepsi whenever the price is good enough, and when the price is good enough, he buys LOTS of Pepsi.
It used to be worse. I used to drink nearly as much Coke as he did Pepsi. Then back in 2005 they sent my son to Iraq, I got an ulcer, and the doc said the caffeine and carbonation had to go, and I stopped buying MY brand. Lew's still going strong though. :D

I cut back after retiring. Free soda fountain just down the hall at work, meant I drank five or six 32oz cups per day. Now, I limit myself to a 2 liter per day and stop. Some days it is empty by 10:00am and then I have to drink water and milk rest of day. Diet Mt. Dew is my poison of choice.

edit: I did have ice in the cup, so I was probably only drinking 24oz of liquid.

Seems a good time to post an image I have not posted here in RTT in some time.

Full Disclosure: I have taken to drinking an occasional locally brewed root beer. Just 7 ounce pony cans so it's not like I am diving into the soda pool much.

Soda and other things that are bad for you in complete and total excess.

I work in a grocery store part time and I'm blown away at the amount of money thrown at piles of junk food when sustainable healthy options could be done in about half the cost if they priced them out enough.

LOTS of loud thunder and blinding lightning tonight. The cats are NOT amused. Neither am I. Milo has spent half of the night trying to burrow under me under the covers. I may or may not sleep tonight. It's not looking good so far, and I have an appt in Ames at 10 tomorrow morning. Blerg.

I do the same thing and will see a cart full of sodas and chips more times than I should. I think I have had 2 fountain Pepsi this year. Both times when traveling. The latest was at Taco Tico on Sunday because that was a special occasion

Only drink pop when traveling or out to eat. Other than it is water or my daily citrus green tea. #Boring

MrsWx and her family are big pop drinkers. Her dad used to exclusively drink Dr. Pepper until it recently started catching up with him. MrsWx drinks a couple of Diet Dews a day, but has pulled back from what she used to do.

Wife left on a mission trip for the youth group yesterday. Just saw she ordered some decorative pillows…….. hopefully when they start doing stuff tomorrow she won’t be apparently bored and buying random things.
