I don't mind that rule, but then you may have recruits just not signing a nli. Which is fine, except that would really drag out the recruiting process.
Good point. I guess what you would have to rely on is kids signing their NLI sooner than later so that schools' classes don't fill up and they get left in the dust for waiting too long. Obviously this wouldn't apply to the top, big time recruits as schools can always find room for them no matter how late in the game, but it would apply to a recruit like McNeil.

CW doesn't think it's 100% over, so how about we save the insults until it is (or understand that it's an 18 year old's decision, and just deal with it)?

Why do we want a kid who doesn't want to be here. It's better this happens now than after next year, which is what would happen if we didn't let him out of his LOI.

It sucks that this happened so damn late but I don't want a kid in this program that doesn't want to be here. Use the scholly on someone who does.

Probably should just save the insults.

It's not ideal, but he has targets and schollies gallore for next year. It was a "rebuilding" year anyway.

I feel like we get blocked a lot on scholarship things but do not do much blocking ourselves. Elijah Long is a pretty classic example there -- and Darien Williams.

That might just be an ISU bias, however.

Anyways, Darius, we would still love to have you. You'll be a stud for us. I respect you wanting to examine your choices, however, and good luck whatever you choose.

I am personally not a fan of blocking schools from any recruits list. He is young and having second thoughts as many of us would at 18. He should be allowed to go to the school of his choosing much like any one of us could have at this point after graduation.
I can understand Prohm deciding blocking a school if ISU plays them in the next few years thus fully expect B12 schools to be restricted. If he really wants to go to Cal though he should have that right IMO.

You can't be serious.

I assume most of you that are saying we shouldn't block any schools are also thinking it is unfair for Illinois State to block McIntosh for us, right? Or are you looking at grad transfers differently than incoming freshmen? Just curious.

I agree that while others do it, it probably isn't good publicity to block kids. But I sure as heck hope we get to find out the REAL reason for his decommiting and not just the generic 'an 18 year old changing his mind'. Can't believe how this happened immediately after the feature articles were written about him and how excited many were to see him. (Someone even claimed he'd start). Many of you are so good about saying "on to the next". Where I think its more of that 'nut cup' time than it was losing Juiston.

Of course grad transfers should be different. By definition, they ahve fulfilled their obligation to their 1st school.

No one wants a kid here that doesn't want to be here anymore, but you can't let them change their minds at the 11th hour without consequences. Make him sit out a year .

how does he know he doesn't want to be here? He thinks he doesn't want to be here, but until he actually gets up here and experiences college life in Ames, he is just assuming he doesn't want to be here.

Walker's last gig was working for UA before being hired by Cal last month. McNeill's AAU program was UA sponsored. Cal recently flipped from Nike to UA for their apparel deal.

Will be interesting to see if ISU blocks Cal in addition to all B12 schools.

what does UA mean or stand for?

I didn't read all the responses in the thread, maybe this already was addressed: If someone wants out, forcing a student to stay seems counter-productive, for everyone involved.
I think CW just means the coaching staff will try to reassure him that Iowa St is the place for him, and if that still doesn't work, then they'll release him, possibly with some blocks.

No different than Donovan Jackson last spring. He wasn't sure about coming, with Naz and Monte being back, after he had signed in November. Prohm had a one on one with him, re recruited him, and he decided to stay.

This is a real ****** move by him. No coaching change just trying to leave at the last minute. It's not fair to the coaching staff or the other kids in the program. Really disappointed in this kid.

Man the latest overhyped recruit leaving at the time of his peak overhype? Would love to have him here but this guy is Jakokby Long 2017 I can live without the 100's of "why isn't McNeill playing" threads that we would have had after every game.
This post is stupid. No offense. They have two guards plus weiler Babb and Long who basically didn't play and had surgery. They missed on grad transfer guards. This causes a big problem.

How many players do you think you need on a basketball team? Wigginton and Jackson need to be on the floor for Monte-minutes if we want to have any success.
