Do some crunches. You can just send the $99 you would have spent on the Ab Belt directly to me.

I have a better idea - send me the money you are going to spend on these ab products. You'll get the same results as if you bought them, and you'd be helping a fellow Cyclone work towards his goal of retirement in the process.

Hard to argue with above posts. Go running or do crunches, wasting money on gimmick devices is not the way to go.

Your abs can be strong as possible but if they are covered in a layer of fat, they'll never show. I'm not saying this is your situation, however, commericials for these products are misleading and consumers tend to believe that doing ab excercises burns fat over top of the abs. It won't. Fat is burned taking in less calories than you use.

I once read an article in men's health that said you need a body fat of 9% or less to have six-pack abs. I'd say that is about accurate.

My wife is a personal trainer. She thinks these type of ab machines are dumb. Do a variety of different types of crunches, and run, and you'll be good.

Ab machines are completely worthless. They are one of the biggest lies in all of the fitness industry. You need NO equipment to get a solid ab workout.

No matter HOW much you exercise your abs, though, you're never going to get a 6 pack unless you lose fat (and probably a LOT of it), and you are never going to lose fat unless you burn more calories than you consume, and you're never going to burn enough calories doing ab workouts alone to make a significant dent.

Also, you cannot choose WHERE the fat comes from. Fat burnt doing ab work isn't necessarily going to burn belly fat. Your body will burn it wherever it sees fit to do so.

Do some crunches, planks, bicycles, scissor kicks etc. if you want ab strength.

And then run, or at the very least hop on a elliptical for 30 minutes or so. Cardio is where you're going to burn calories.

All that being said, consuming fewer calories is way easier to do than working them off. Going for a 3 mile run (for me at around 205 lbs) is going to burn maybe 500 calories. That's really not a whole lot considering how much work it is. Way easier not to eat those calories in the first place, though it doesn't do much to get you in shape.

All of these things (save for maybe the eliptical thing) are FREE. In fact, eating fewer calories can actually SAVE you money!!

You mean to tell me that I shouldn't go spend a ridiculous amount of money to buy a gimmick that tells me I can get a whole lot more results by doing less then 10% of the effort and have a body of a model. The people on the commercials tell me it happened to them and they can't be lying can they??????????

Agree totally with your post. The most common sense I have read in this thread.

More or less!

Those guys don't get in shape on those machines. They are in shape before they get on them, and then they collect their checks and go home and eat their crazy healthy diets and work out all day to stay in shape, and I can almost guarantee they don't use or maybe even have one of those things at home, and probably not in their gym either.

If it makes you feel better about yourself, maybe it's worth it psychologically. But if you really want to get in better shape, or lose fat, spend that time doing something productive, and save your money for a good pair of running shoes.
