I could have subtitled this why I am not worried about Greg McDermott as a coach.

He basically has coached two other places before Iowa State, Wayne State and Northern Iowa. I am ignoring the one year stop at North Dakota State in 2000-2001 where he went 15-11.

Look at his records.

Wayne State:
14-13
12-15
21-7
20-7
23-5
26-6 (1st in conference, won conference tournament)

Northern Iowa:
14-15
11-17
21-10 (won conference tournament, NCAA)
21-11 (NCAA)
23-10 (NCAA)

What jumps out at you? He struggles his second year at schools. In fact, those two years are outliers in a stellar career. Why? I don't know. Maybe he gets bored. Maybe he tries to implement more of his system while in the first year he keeps it simple. Maybe he lets people like Jeremy help him coach. Whatever it is, the future looks bright.

You mean, a coach that progressively improves at both of the locations he's at?

But...why do we want a coach like that?

I do blame Jeremy though. Horrible job outta Jamie/Greg for allowing him around the team.

Kudos on the homework though. I hope the great post doesn't get lost in the hilarious joke. ;)

Once he gets a feel for the environment, it looks like he gets in rhythm. I wont talk smack about him until he has great players and still cant win. Im guessing he should really start show progress next year and year 4.

Great post...oops, I mean "OMG WE LOST TO DRAKE?! AAAH#$!$!#$".

Sometimes the reason that I love message boards is the same reason I hate message boards.

It would be interesting to see if, in the 2nd year of those seasons mentioned, if he had a team get beat by the worst margin in a 150+ game series.

And if he did or didn't, that would tell you what?

Probably not, but does everyone really think that Drake is 30 points better than us? I don't--it was just one of those nights. Drake could not miss, we couldn't make a put-back or shot, and we got steamrolled. I sincerely believe that if we played them again we wouldn't lose by 30 points, but sometimes this happens to young/inexperienced programs (Texas football game anyone?).

Well it looks like we should look forward to next year and begin to be skeptical if next season is not so great
