Here are some rock bands I love:
Rolling Stones
The Who
Led Zeppelin
Rush
Stone Temple Pilots
AC/DC

I 'get' U2 and would put them up there. I think throughout their career, with ups & downs of course, they've put out good music. For example War and Achtung Baby are completely different and far apart but nice pieces of work.

I never got Nirvana, they are like R.E.M where everyone is suppose to like them, but they aren't that good.

Alice in Chains is another good one cut short.

Why does every love U2 so much? I am not a fan of some on these list but understand why they are there. But I just dont get the love for U2.

I could not agree more - horrible

Same with Bon Jovi - yuck

Testifying
I would think that Van Halen would have to be on some lists. While the band is generally a head case, they can jam. Eddie is a tremendous talent. Even though a lot of people think synthesizers are lame, I generally think that it was pretty cool for the 80's, they had some good riffs.
I've seen a ton of concerts over the years and Prince is definitely on the top of the list. He has some ridiculous talent.

Not sure that all of these would be considered greatest of all time, but they have continued to stand the test of time in my collection and will continue to remain for years to come....

Jimi Hendrix
Lenny Kravitz
Metallica
Ozzy Osbourne
Chris Cornell (Temple of the Dog, Soundgarden, Audioslave, & Solos)
Chili Peppers
Zeppelin
Doors
Rage Against the Machine
Black Crowes
Alice in Chains
Van Halen
Kiss
Aerosmith

I have been re-visiting Appetite for Destruction lately. Without question in the top 5 best albums of all time.

Well...If we are including Country Rock, I might as well throw in The Outlaws.

If we are getting into "country rock" (and I hate this label), you gotta include Johnny Cash. If you want to get into "country rock" (i hate any label for this genre) than that's a whole other list in and of itself, which would include my avatar.

The highlighted would be in my list with the addition of Metallica, Jane's Addiction, Ozzy and Bad Religion. I've listening to a lot of Rise Against and they may make my list some day.

Oh, I wasn't trying to be a nazi about it. Southern Rock is probably as good of a label as there is. I just know a lot of people who won't listen to good bands in that genre if it's described as "country rock" or "alt-country" because they think it's going to sound like Allen Jackson, or something. Thats all.

What about The Offspring? They haven't been around for a really long time, but they have put out four or five really good albums and songs like The Kid's Aren't All Right, Can't Repeat, Gone Away, I Choose, Self-Esteem, Keep 'Em Separated, Genocide, and many many more are awesome songs.
