I don't understand this media "outrage". I didn't see it as Sayers ripping the Bears...just giving his opinion on where they are right now.

"Cutler hasn't done the job," Sayers said. "[Linebacker Brian] Urlacher, I don't know how good he's going to be coming back. He's 33 years old. They need a couple wide receivers, a couple defensive backs. They haven't done a good job.
"If [head coach] Lovie [Smith] doesn't do it this year, I think he's gone. He had a good team the Super Bowl year. Nothing came together for him the last couple years."

Cutler didn't do the job last year. They do need a couple receivers. They do need a couple of defensive backs. Urlacher is coming off an injury at the age of 33. There really isn't anything controversial here.

I think Sayers is just laying out facts. Don't see anything inflamatory.

I hate Urlacher. Here is an Oldie but a goodie. Skip to 3:40 where it gets funny.

Bill Cosby => critical of young African Americans' "behavior"
Gayle Sayers => critical of Bears

Good parallel?

Both told the truth (from their perspective). Both were criticized from within the "organization", but were appreciated and understood from those not as close to it.

I agree that everything he said was true....but why say it? Everybody else is already saying it and they know it. Why does Gale Sayers think he has the power to criticize the team when he himself never played on a team worth a darn?! That is like me golfing and hitting my tee shot OB. Than the next guy hits it in the water and I say, "boy that shot was awful." While it may be true, should I really be talking?

I don't have a problem with what Sayers has said. He's right. The Bears haven't done a good job. They haven't been successful the last 3 years.

I do have a problem with how he said. Basically saying people are old and sucks? Come on, be better than that. I mean, 45 years after you entered the league and runners today are still being compared to you. You need to stop being bitter and come to terms with the fact that your career was very unfortunately cut short.

I don't have a problem with Urlacher coming to the defense of his team and teammates.

I do have a problem that Urlacher went personal in his comments with the question "How many championships did Gale Sayers win?" The answer to that question isn't zero. The answer to that question is Sayers won as many championships as you have Mr. Urlacher.

My suggestion is everyone should just shut the **** up.

Urlacher is so touchy around the press. He lives in a fantasy world where if you are a fan you have to support the team unequivocally and he thinks the media should do the same. He's still po'd about the papers running the details of his divorce and his subsequent fling with Paris. All Sayers did was answer a fair question. The guy doesn't mince words.

He didn't say anyone was awful, he said Cutler hasn't done the job, said he didn't know how good Urlacher would be coming back given his age and said he thinks Lovie could be fired if he doesn't do well. It would actually be more like you hitting a tee shot OB, the next guy hitting it in the water, thus making it so you couldn't tell anyone that he hit his shot in the water.

Gale is my all time favorite football player but I agree, he didn't really have to say it, but that's the way he is. Disagree about Cutler though. Jay came on late and he needs a better offensive line. Cutler is not the problem for the future.

Throwing 3 picks in a game at Baltimore then throwing 4 TDs against the lonely Lions is not coming on late in the season.

Your wrong, they need an offensive line more then anything. last year we easily has the worse offensive line in the NFL, our running back averaged 60 yards a game for christ sakes, our quarterback had about 3 seconds to make a decision. our line is what needs to change, we signed defensive backs so we should be ok they need an offensive line. How else can you explain Cutler coming here and playing terrible and orton going to denver and playing amazing? nothing changed skill wise, Denvers line is far better
