At the games I'm up & down, hollering, trying to avoid loud obscenities on occasion due to nearby children. Watching at home I have fewer restrictions...I pace, I holler, I cuss, I cheer & hi-five PapaLew. In tense situations I have a habit of folding my hands together & chewing on my knuckles.

Years ago we were watching a game on the Saturday after Thanksgiving, which is when our family typically has our big gathering. I was taking the rolls off the cookie sheet and putting them in the basket, and I got so mad at a play that I threw one of the rolls at the TV. Now, if I'm expecting a negative outcome, I have a bag of marshmallows handy. If you throw them, they can't damage the TV or anything else. If you miss one when cleaning up later, they petrify and become great cat toys...bonus!

At home, all TVs on... And I find things to do, like clean, move stuff here or there, put away laundry. But the TV is audible and able to be seen at all times. Busy work....

Being a Cyclone and Vikings fan I tend to imagine unexpected scenarios in my mind. Sometimes the reality's good, generally it's bad, but it's rarely uninteresting

You like it when there's a close game on, because I clean the house out of nervousness. Every time there's a break in the action, I tidy up.

Also, during basketball season, I usually yell "BAM!!!" every time we hit a 3-pointer. The kids used to get scared by it, but they've gotten used to it, by now.

You will note that I specifically did not complain about the house cleaning. It's the only time I get that cleaning fervor out of you - a very small piece of me wants to get you to like other sports with that intensity, so you'll do it more often.

You have straight-up made our children cry before with the "BAM."

Sometimes I get on the treadmill. I ran about 8 miles during the OSU game in 2011.

Some of the big basketball games I don't even watch the first half.

I love this insight into Janny's game watching behavior.

I will freely admit that I'm a bad person to watch a game with. I turn down lots of invites to watch games with friends, because I know that if I accepted, they'd probably regret inviting me. I'm not a "Yell at the TV" guy. I'm more of a "Yell at people around me" guy. I don't like a lot of background chatter. The game consumes pretty much all of my attention, and I don't have time for other things. I hardly ever participate in game threads here on CF, either, unless we're way up.
It's weird, because I'm not really an intense person other than that. I'd like to think I'm fairly easygoing. But, Iowa State sports just taps into some hidden part of my personality, I guess.

I watch the tv. Mostly because I'm self aware and know there's nothing I can do to effect the game positively or negatively.

I try my best to do this but basketball likes to keep things interesting until the last second.

Football's not as bad since it's not typical for it to be close/interesting. I stayed amazingly calm during that last minute of the KSU game last year.

During basketball season, if the game is close, I'll stand the last few minutes. Being empty nesters, my wife and I can and will freely cuss at the TV. Her dog used to walk in circles and pace nervously when games went south and we were cussing up a storm. We don't get as worked up over football due, probably to lower expectations.

I wish I could be a realistic fan, but I always think my team will come back and win. Combine that with being a Cyclone, Viking and Twin fan and you can guess how my game experiences go.

For a lot of the games I'll end up recording them and watching them after getting my daughter to bed so I can watch them uninterrupted and zip through commercials. If I don't think I can handle the suspense I can check the score and then watch it with much less anxiety.

It depends on the situation.

I think I have done it all at Iowa State games, and this is usually the reaction after the play:

It's funny because it is true...

We have a watch party at our place on Saturday. I think I'm going to need several LARGE bags of marshmallows...
