Last night MythBusters did a promo where in an upcoming episode (they didn't announce a date) they will be putting MacGyver myths to the test. This ought to be interesting as it's been rumored that the writers of MacGyver actually tested their stuff to make sure it worked before they aired it.

During the promo, Adam put the test of "spraying drain cleaner onto a lit light bulb to get it to explode so MacGyver could escape from the bad guys." The cool thing is it actually worked.

Let's just say I'm looking forward to the episode

Maybe we'll see Adam and Jamie in a spoof of "Macgruber"

I love watching Mythbusters and was a big MacGyver fan, so I can't wait for Adam and Jamie to test these out. I had heard once that the contraptions Mac used to come up with worked, but they always left one key component out so that someone didn't blow off their hand.

If Mac could blow open a safe with chewing gun, cleaning spray, and chocolate, imagine what Adam and Jamie will try to blow up

Should be a quality episode... IMO, Discovery has the best shows on TV.

Man vs. Wild
How It's Made
Mythbusters
Dirty Jobs

Totally agree with all of these except Man vs. Wild. After researching the show a little, it turns out the guy is kind of a fraud. The first season, he was spending some nights in hotels and other misleading things.

Survivorman is much more authentic.

I heard that Man vs. Wild is staged and Survivorman is the real deal, or is it the other way around? Whatever, I like the one that isn't staged better. Stupid fake survivor skills.

See, that doesn't bother me so much. The guy did all this crap when he was in British special forces - what else does he have to prove? So he spent some nites in hotels - dude killed a viper with his bare hands, drank his own ****, and can start a fire with two sticks. Dude's hardcore! One other point - if the guy dies, there's no show - so I'm okay with concessions being mad.

Agree that he does some crazy stuff, but his show is manufactured and misleading. He's very Hollywood.

Les Stroud (Survivorman) is much more measured and authentic. He has distilled his own urine and routinely starts fires with "two sticks". The deal with him is that if he fails, they show it.

mythbusters is probobly my favorite show

i like 60 minutes, weaponology, science discovery shows like Mars landing. Actually its extremely pathetic how few good show there are considering the hundreds of channels. Another money scam = tv. I DVR everything i watch so i can zap through the commericals.

Yeah blah blah, Survivorman may be real, but he doesn't do crazy **** like drink water from elephant dung. Real or not (atleast 95% real) Man vs Wild is better because it is hilarious to see the guy when he finds things like a freaking scorpion in the desert. He jumps up and grabs it and chops it off. The man is crazy, real or not.

Yeah blah blah, Man vs. Wild guy has people on his crew dress up like bears and passes it off like it's real. He wears a life jacket under his coat while he braves the rapids without a boat. He says he stays in the wild, but is actually spending the night in a luxurious hotel.

I'd be fine with this if he said as much, but he basically is just making a movie if he does things this way.

Survivorman does do some crazy things, but only within the scope of actual survival, not just to play Fear Factor. I half expect Joe Rogan to come out and tell Bear Grylls he won the money.
