It sounds like they are still working on the plans. Like most of the plans running around, we probably will not hear about them until after basketball season. As far as where the building is going to go, I would think it would have to go south of the Bergstrom. It could also go east in to that parking lot, but I would think the Athletics Department would want to keep that parking for those donors. My bet is that the offices/ football complex is built to the south of the Bergstrom and is attached to it as well. The football field already there may be moved further south as well.

This is just my guess.

South of the Bergstrom? Wouldn't that cut into the outdoor practice field and make the project more expensive because they'd have to move that field? I think it more likely would go west of the Bergstrom, where they have a lot more room, could still attach it to the Bergstrom and have a door open up straight onto the practice field. They wouldn't have to tear up a parking lot either.

Nope. There's no room down there.

They should build it directly west of the Jake, connecting to the southeast corner of the IPF.

It would obstruct the sidewalk to the west entrance, but they could easily accommodate that by expanding the northwest entrance.

Then the could dig a tunnel along the north side of the existing west stands (under the walkway to the west stands) for a better team entrance.

Could you enlighten us, or at least me? I am interested in a general direction. Thanks.

I think he already did. One of his earlier posts, he said west and up, which I took to mean west of the Bergstrom and a taller building with multiple floors.

spend some money on the creek or river that meanders thru the golf course and dam the river upstream so it won't flood-that will solve many flooding problems.. they should have put the athletic facilities west of ames when they did their athletic planning-i guess hindsight is 20-20......

You would think that we'll know one way or the other in the next few weeks. If they are going to build in the parking lot east of the IPF, they are going to have to say something in the season ticket mailing as far as the parking lot diagram. I don't know how many spots are in 85W, but those people would all be moved (probably North) and that would push everyone back as well as push a bunch of $250 donors to the grass lot.

As far as what would be included, I've heard locker room, weight room and coaches offices and I'd guess meeting rooms, players lounge, training/rehab/sports medicine. Thing is, if you are going to build something like this, I don't see the point in building west of the IPF where no one can see it. You'd think that they would want to show it off. The donors should understand and they'd STILL get primo parking...just across the street.

It's going in where 85W is, not over Johnny Majors Practice Field.

If they are going to do this they should honestly just demolish the Olsen building and build on that site. The Olsen building is very outdated.

I question the idea of going west of Bergstrom. I don't think there is a whole lot of room before you run into a pretty significant hill, not to mention the forrest of trees in there. From scaling off an aerial, it looks like Bergstrom is about 200 feet wide, and there is about 100-120 feet of open space to the fence that runs along the toe of the hill. I don't know specifics of what all is going in there, but that is about the maximum area available. I doubt they would want to cut into the hill too much as it would add signifcant cost.

Also, I agree with a previous poster that if this is where it were to go, it would get lost in everything else. It would not really be visible from anywhere but the south, where no one ever goes.

Also, I have never noticed this before but why is Johnny Majors pratice field about 160 yards long?

It gives you extra room so the first team O, first team D and kicking game can all practice at the same time without running over each other. It also gives enough room so position coaches can drill their position players without running into other positions - while kickers and punters still have room to practice.

Whatever the location, you can bet somebody in Ames will ***** about it. The neighbors along Beach will ***** or the city will *****. Write it down.

Yeah, I don't get this. I used to live in "The Beach House" right across the street from the stadium. Sure you had to plan a little bit for traffic on gameday if you had to go somewhere. But the location was AWESOME!. We had some killer parties there on both home and away game days. We had a great party when ISU ended the Squawks' FB winning streak and then we went down to the lots to greet the players when they got back from Iowa ******.

Sure disruption is, well, disrupting; but it all, along with living around the students, keeps you young.

This is the idea I like the most. A multi story facility in place of this would be great.

I'm guessing the cost, time, and displacement of all the activities would be too much.

It WILL be in the parking lot between the Jake and the Indoor. 100% guaranteed.
