Personally, I love the hillsides. Keep them, keep the band there and do what else is in the picture behind it would be amazing. Here is a really bad paint job of it.

I like what you're getting at here. Having grass on the lower portion sort of like a lot of MAC schools have on one end, withe band in the middle and boxes up top.

Unless there is a very large donation or something changes, I don't think a full renovation of the north end zone is the plan. The Jacobsen Building is not going to be razed to make room for new seating. It may be incorporated into a new larger building, but as of now the budget for this project is only in the $20 million range. Not sure who started the idea of larger capacity. This isn't about new seating at all.

Does upgrading facilities come out of the same budget as paying our coaches? If so, the NEZ/Players facility can wait.

Move it to the track/softball complex and stick this bad boy on top:

I disagree. The Jacksonville Jaguars logo would look very out of place in Jack Trice

I can tell you with certainty it won't be a second football only building, I assume that's what people mean by a football performance center building (coming from high up athletic department officials). It is possible there are a couple things in it that would be football only though, but that's yet to be determined.

You're absolutely right about the Olsen building being razed and about the Jacobson.
It’s time to go all-in on football imo. Add two buildings on each side of the Jacobson building and integrate it all into a NEZ. Keep the Olsen for Olympic sports.

While I agree Im not sure there will be a complete renovation of the NEZ, Pollard and Sage have both hinted to a major reno in the North end. Including a multi story building, razing the Olsen, New concourse, "not mirroring the SEZ, but completing the stadium".
And if you look at the 5 year plan it shows $30 mill, for Athletic Performance Center for '20/'21. While this timeline and amount can change, it does show there is a plan to do something. Yet $30 mill isn't enough to do a entire project with stadium reno, I believe the Clemson West Zone was 3 phases and totaled $70 million and included a performance center and Locker rooms. But Like I said these plans change up and down and can get major boosts from donations or can be scrapped as well.
From the interviews I have heard they make it sound like since they are going to be renovating the north end area, they feel they should incorporate the NEZ to some degree to "finish" the stadium.
What all that means I don't know. Will they do it right? Will they finish of the stadium? Will they just build a new building in place of the Olsen? Will they just add onto the Berg? All yet to be seen. I think something will be done, but it may just be to add onto the Berg, tear down the Olsen and connect the concourse. Which really doesn't do much to the stadium at all.

The QC
NEZ now looks unfinshed, like a placeholder for bigger and better things to come. Not a big bump in seats.

Next big expansion would be a new pressbox/suites/third deck on the west side.

Crazy to think that thought is not so crazy right now.

So digging on more info on this addition.
The orange chairback premium sections total 970 seats. To give you an idea of capacity, this means I can guess around 6000 total here.
This was done in 3 phases.
This part (stadium addition) was component I and cost approx $30-40 mill.
Component II will include new offices for Clemson's football coaching staff, position team meeting rooms, a new team meeting room, football administration offices, a player lounge area, an aquatic training facility, a lower concourse entrance area that will include personal plaques of each current Clemson player, and a 15,000 square-foot strength training facility.
Component III will feature a Clemson Museum that will include Clemson's University, military and athletic history, and a new Lettermen's Lounge.
Component 2 and 3 added an additional approx. $30 mill. to total approx $70 mil.

A symbol of Muslim conquest and of atrocities against Hindu people. There is a serious debate in India about knocking it down because what it embodies about their history.

Symbols of colonialism and conquest, build by invaders in order to establish power, authority, and to intimidate native peoples, should be knocked down, right? :p

(only semi-joking here)

I’m not sure there’s any possible way of renovating the NEZ and making it look nice while leaving the hillsides. The hillsides, while nice for families, is what is preventing JTS looking bigtime.

Hillsides are just a slight step above a track around the field.

I agree that the hillsides don't necessarily project that "Big Time" vibe, but with a packed house, it still looks quite good and it adds a unique factor to our stadium. If/when it comes time to revamp the NEZ, I will understand if they go away, but they aren't some kind of eyesore that make our stadium look terrible. They are a family friendly alternative and make it much easier to accommodate a large family with children of various ages.

The eyesore is mainly the Jacobson building just sitting there in the endzone. But, the hillsides don't do a thing to help it. Combine the Jacobson building and the hillside seating and you get an eyesore, especially now that we have a bowled in endzone. Before, we didn't know any better because we didn't have anything to really compare it to.
But, whenever the camera shows the PAT's and FG's on the south side, it looks really great. When they're on the north side, it just looks bad.
The difference now is glaringly obvious and hopefully the NEZ is renovated ASAP.

When I look at these 2 images I just think how awesome this below would look and feel, compared to that above. I just think that something similar to Clemson in the NEZ with the performance center behind, plus making the lower NEZ seats Family and Jr Cyclone seats, selling Family Packs like they do at K-State, then get kids there opportunities to get close to players, and CY which would be even more fun for kids, to get that interaction as well. Not to mention have more family friendly vending options there and a great family atmosphere in that section. Then of course the additional club/premium level above. The way this is built the NEZ video board could be built right on top of it and be the same or only slightly higher than the SEZ board. At some point the Hillsides WILL go away, will it be with this renovation? Unknown, and probably more on the doubtful side. But when it happens I hope they do something to bring those families into the stadium and more included into the game atmosphere.
I honestly can say that the Jacobsen building is probably the biggest problem in the NEZ. It looks terrible, out of place and doesn't fit in the stadium. If the entire NEZ was just a bowled in Hillside with the Olsen building or another building behind it would look better, but that Jake is such an eyesore and out of scale to the rest of the stadium. This has been my feeling since they first built it, the building just looks out of place, just stuck there in the NEZ.
I'm not saying any of this will get done, possibly nothing more than adding on to the Berg. But, this is my hope, and this would be the best thing, in my opinion. Something will happen in the NEZ, whether it is to this scale I'm doubtful, but still hopeful.

I really think any talk of the NEZ is really premature. I just don't believe it's going to be a priority in the next 10 years.

If there's any money being thrown at JTS, they should go for upkeep. The original grandstands are now 40+ years old with very little change over that time. Case and point: Walking down the aisle into this from the upper deck vs Kansas. If that's happening, there are some problems...

You don't think expanding student athlete facilities is necessary because we only sell out against Iowa and UNI?

Isn't DesMoines one of the faster growing cities? I could see us easily needing 65+K in the next 5 or 10 years if we achieve CMC's goals and continue to expand our fan base.
