With Rocco the obvious #1 qb, I bet the coaches just went with who had the best week of practice between the back up qb's. Not sure there needs to be too much made of the choice at this point in time. The staff was aware they might have a chance for extended playing time for the #2 on Saturday, and prepared accordingly during last week's practice.

That’s what they insinuated on the broadcast. We’re pretty fortunate if our 2 & 3 are neck and neck as good as Moberly looked

Totally disagree. You're saying it's either A) He's dinged up.... or B) He's not giving effort in practice??? Why??

How about... he's not dinged up... he's giving great effort in practice... he just flat out got beat out by someone better? That's what I think has happened. Moberly is just that good IMO. I know this will rub a bunch of people the wrong way, but IMO if Rocco and Moberly were both true freshman right now fighting for the job... Moberly would win it. Rocco deserves the #1 spot for sure, no doubt, but IMO it's only because of his experience and leadership.

Way too many people put WAY too much emphasis on a kid's recruiting rankings. Kohl never should have been a 4 star kid, but he was based mostly on his size IMO. But people think too much like.... "Moberly was just a 3 star... how can he possibly be ahead of a 4 star in the depth chart?". That's not how it works folks.
Does anyone think that? I would think anyone still holding on to the idea that ratings matter moved on from that after seeing this last basketball season.

Pretty amazing statistic. I honestly don't know of another program in the nation that plays as many guys as we do early in the season. Yeah, it may contribute a little to slow starts, but I think it definitely factors into our October and November success.

I think QB is different than the other positions, especially WR, RB and TE.
Moberly is currently the #2. They want to get him as many reps as possible to be ready if needed.

If anyone calls for Moberly over Rocco, they are an idiot. That said, Rocco was FAR from sharp yesterday. His receivers bailed him out a ton.

My takeaways yesterday:

1. Our secondary played grown-men football. Locked down their receivers most of the day and made a good QB struggle.
2. I love Darian Porter more and more every week. The guy does something great every game and is solid when he’s not busy doing something great.
3. Rocco is the unquestioned starter and should be…., BUT, Rocco was off on many throws and was often bailed out by an exceptional receiving corp. Rocco played well, but needs to tighten up his throws, it could cost us in a tight game.
4. The ‘Mobes’ played well and seems to be the clear QB2. Sucks to see that for JJ, I had high hopes for him, but it seems like he just got beat out by a better player.
5. We’ve got a lot of good running backs, but Dylan Lee could be special if he keeps at it. Carson, Sama, and Jackson all looked great.
6. Kenard Snyder and Kooper Ebel both looked like a couple of guys that could be huge impact players on our defense this year. Both played great.

Fun game to watch- bring on the Cougs!

Glad to see all the players beyond the 2-deeps get some PT yesterday. Is a reward for working hard, builds team morale (noted the large number of teammates congratulating Flora) and keeps starters from injury risk. But let’s pump the brakes on evaluating against a gassed lower level opponent to the point where it’s suggested that QB1 needs to be looking over his shoulder.

Wait, there are people out there that seriously think that Moberly should start? I haven't seen any of these comments.

Point them out so they can be properly shamed.

Agree with everything except for Arkansas State having a good QB. He kept staring down receivers and was wanting to go to his best guy even if he was double or triple covered.

What I hope is that JJ is close enough to Moberly that he gets in the next time we are blowing someone out. I think that you absolutely need to keep the RS on Moberly. And you have to have some flexibility if Rocco gets hurt and is out for a few games. JJ has already used his redshirt. If the two guys are close as far as the depth chart goes, you play the RSFR and hold back the TRFR...at least if it's garbage time. Now, if Rocco is out for a long stretch, all bets are off.

I'm not saying he should start, and I dont want him to (yet), but based on the very small sample size on Saturday and some of the things I'm hearing from people in the know, I think he's much closer to QB1 than people realize.

Agree. Moberly has great potential. Rocco is definitely #1. But Rocco must continue to perform and play well. And continue to improve his skills. Moberly has a higher ceiling IMO. We will likely retain his redshirt. Conference games. Probably be Rocco start to finish. Moberly has two games. Plus we do not know if Kohl could be breathing down his neck. We have a talented QB room.
