I'm sure this feature has been thought of before, but unless it's really hard to implement, I think it would help reduce people posting the same opinions over and over all the time.

Similar to a poster's positive rep. Each Post would have an 'Agree' count and a 'Disagree' count. If somebody posted something you really agree with, instead of just repping the person, then quoting them and adding a '+1' or 'This post represents exactly how I feel'. You can click the 'Agree' button.

If you disagree, instead of quoting it and saying how you disagree along with the 12 other people who disagree with the post and responded. You could click the 'Disagree' button.

Then a little visual indicator that shows the number of people who agree or disagree with this post can be displayed.

Then next time I see a post I disagree with, if I see that everybody else already disagrees with it, I don't need to waste my time and everyone else's writing up a response trying to argue the other side.

In addition to keeping threads reasonably sized, this may help limit personal attacks if there are fewer typed responses. And this may help get better representation of how the masses feel. Many people on CF do not like to post, but are probably more willing to click agree or disagree. So it might be easier to make note of the vocal minority on issues.

I think that all posts that simply quote someone else's post should be deleted. I saw one just about an hour ago, someone quoted the person immediately above them, but didn't give any additional insight- it was just a quote. I like the quote feature, but it does get mis-used.

I couldn't find the agree button.

I think we should do this. On my twins forum I have a similar thing implemented in which there is a green and red button within each post aside from reputation.

How is that different than rep?

Yeah... it's not for the poster... and affects the poster in no way. Its all about the post itself. This way 80 people don't gang up on a poster slamming them for their post because you can already see that 80 people disagree with the post. And instead of threads that end with, "This statement has been posted 20 times already in this thread", people can just agree with the statements.

Also, it might help people sort out important posts easier if there is a visual indicator. I imagine it would work so that the main posts of a thread are the ones that have the most votes for/against it.

My main purpose for this idea is reduce the need to wade through 15 page threads looking for a few bits of info when most of it is just re-iterating what has already been said many times before. Hopefully it reduces post counts in a thread, AND makes it easier to distinguish the meat of the thread (the posts that are actually useful to read)

I want to put time back into my life by removing the duplicate thoughts on CF. New thoughts and opinions should always be encouraged, just not re-iterating the same thing over and over (in my opinion).

Also, off topic. I hate when people state what they think will happen as fact. Like, "Brackins is leaving", or "Brackins is staying". Does this person have inside info, or do the really mean, "I strongly believe Brackins is staying/leaving". I never know and it bugs me.

I hate the second part too. Everyone here wants their thoughts to be heard, or they wouldnt post. That is just life on a message board. We all think we know more than the next guy and want to tell the rest about it. Taking time to rate a thread would take time out of your life as well

Hopefully, I'd respond less, and just click agree or disagree more. But I suppose, I might take more time to rate more posts than I'd normally even consider responding to. I doubt this gets implemented, but figured I'd see if enough people (and the people who have to take the time to implement) like the idea.

And you're probably right in the unquoted part of your post, will it really stop people from posting a response that says the same thing? Might not... in which case it's not worth it.

I like this idea, but let's take it a step further. What if 10 people disagreed with your post, then the next time you visited CF and tried to type something you would get a pretty serious shock sent your way through your keyboard. The technology is there, it's science. Jeremy just needs to flip the switch.
