FAWcast: A different take on Iowa State/Texas Tech

I like Charter. I disagree with most of what he says (he's dead on about not accepting mediocrity though) and I definitely would present myself different, but these things don't work without a contrarian. For every Keith Murphy or Ken Miller you need an Andy Fales or Marty Tirrell stirring up the masses with some left field opinion that gets the conversation elevated or shifted in another direction.

CW and Gray can give their opinion but rely on their relationships with the Iowa State Athletic Department for the livelihood of their product. That keeps them from being able to go super negative even if the situation called for it. Charter fills that void (twss).

My only suggestion is to tone down the sports betting talk. Picking games and point spreads are fine, but sometimes all the money talk does go overboard.

It's sports radio. People disagree. That's what makes it fun. Charter and I disagree all of the time. Same with Gray. I still love the guy. Not sure why dudes on anonymous message boards can't do the same without getting vulgar.

I disagree with you here, the only thing vulgar is the way that Charter is bashing the program in it's current state at every opportunity, his motive is to probably do this to Rhoads till the day he is gone... Do I see that as productive, no we have 66% of the season remaining, a lot could happen or not happen... But I don't believe he is the voice of the fan, more like the voice of the negative fan, which represents 40% of the poster, it is not realism either, just people with the impression that CRP has outlived his welcome, but that is their opinion. In the end I just don't understand his intent to advertise himself as the voice of the fan and bash the program throughout, it is his opinion but I refuse to listen to it anymore.....

If negative fans are those who want a coaching change, I'd say we're more than 40%. But even if we're 40%, I hope we're proportionately represented on radio and other Iowa State media. I love FAWcast. At least when they talk about ISU sports. It is the only podcast I consistently listen to on CF.

(When FAWcast talks about topics other than ISU sports, however, things get cringe worthy awkward and uncomfortable sometimes)

That's fair. I can't kill you for this take. It's clear that it's well thought out and you're passionate about it.

To me, Charter is like Trump. Does he represent the masses? Probably not. But he does represent that whatever percent and passionate about it. I'm fine with that, as log as he keeps it respectful (not personal), which he usually does.

Charter is open and honest about his opinion. Because of that I think he expects some of that from others. He is down on Rhoads because of Rhoads not being candid with his control of Smoke on the Water.

Meh, the Heisman is rarely about the best player in college football. It's usually handed on a silver platter to the QB on the best team or the QB who has made the most headlines. You won't ever seen Pat Mahomes arrested or accused of raping anyone. He's an actual quality human being on a program that isn't flashy so his Heisman chances are extremely low.



Maybe so....but you'll see Mahomes, Boykins and Russell for yourself soon enough. When you're watching the games just realize that everything Mahomes is doing is on a bum knee and it's being done without a Josh Doctson or Corey Coleman. Also remember that 99% of college QB can't throw a rope across their body 60 yards down the field.

I've seen Graham Harrell, Colt McCoy, Sam Bradford, Robert Griffin, Treyvon Boykin and Brandon Weeden in person. Patrick Mahomes is the better than all of them. I've had over 140+ posts on this site and I've never BS'd anyone here, I'm telling you this kid is one of the best you've seen.

Charter and Trump is a good comparison. For the most part he has been respectful, I thought the Prohm comment was a bit of a personal dig, I also think he throws those in here and there in multiple directions. I am not trying to censor any of this at all, I just don't see the end value in what he is doing both for his own name and for the university......

What I see is a team that is much improved from the past two years. I see several freshman making a large impact already. I see several JUCOs filling important roles, which I feel is what this team needs more of going forward. I also have seen games from other Big XII teams where I have seen weaknesses. At this point I don' t think the Big XII, as a whole, is as strong as previous years. Does this mean ISU will win 0, 1, 2, 3, 4+ more games? I have no idea, but I look forward to finding out. I also think I'm being realistic.

If we had won zero games last year we'd be even more improved.

Ultimately, whether Rhoads is brought back next year should depend only on wins and losses. I know, there's a portion of the fan base that believes it's dangerous to judge success based on wins and losses.

Boom, 100% share this view, Charter would call you a kool-aid drinker.... Which I think is 100% false, let the season play out...... More than that if we win only 0-2 games do I think that CPR should lose his job yes.... But that is 32 quarter of football away....

Just to play devils advocate Chris, when have you ever gone out and out negative about the university or programs? The university shouldn't have a problem with what you have written because it is always well thought out and respectfully written. If you were in your current position and you had Charter's opinions posted all over the main page with classic charter sayings as headlines (Rhoads is a bad coach, Iowa State to go 2-10 the rest of the way! Etc) I think you would find your access to the program quite limited.
