LEGO bricks
That was my childhood

It really is hard to beat the plain lego bricks as a kid. So many possibilities. I remember the daycare/latchkey had this big lego bin, but it was inexplicably 90% 6x2 black bricks, with a few red and blue ones thrown in. Those became the best things ever though once we figured out how to build Star Destroyers from Star Wars with them. I remember it being this massive challenge to see who could build the biggest one that didn't fall apart when you lifted it off the ground.

M-tron was ever so slightly ahead of my time as a kid. In fact, I remember thinking they looked sweet in those cool catalogs they'd throw in the sets (must have had one older set in my stuff) but then I never actually saw them in the stores.

Did you ever have any of the knock-off brand legos, like Tyco? They were supposedly compatible with legos, but sometimes you had to really force them to fit and then they were impossible to disassemble. It's a shame that I sullied my lego collection by mixing in those cheap imitations.

this thing was cool, along with my plastic animals, legos, tinker toys, hotwheels, and n64.

The whole space series ones from the early to mid 90's were the bomb. The castles from the mid to late 90's and of course cowboys and Indians from around then, too. Heck, pretty much all of the series from the 90's were awesome, shame I wasn't a few years older at the time and bought even more of them.

So...you're saying you played with legos for an entire decade?

^up to cycl1's post - that was the thing where if it flipped over from a curb or jump or something it could still drive right?

#1 the original Atari (dominated River Raid)

#2 Original playstation bought in college ( my nephews call it a PS1, i said it never had a number because it was the only one at the time. I remember the first month i owned it i stayed up playing college football 96'. Todd Bandauer and Troy Davis won multiple national championships.

#3 my 4850 MFWD john deere tractor. i think it had about 10,000 hrs on it, and now my 3 year old son plays with it. the wheels arent real straight anymore, but he doesn't care. they just don't make toy tractors like that anymore.

I kind of feel sorry for kids today. Their toys are as terrible as Missouri leaving the Big 12 for the SEC.

Why does a kid need a toy to make a noise for them...most have mouths that can make noise.

My five year old nephew has a better smart phone than me...which is used exclusively for gaming. Play with some sticks or a box kid.

Back in my day...toys were made of metal and didn't come with choking hazard labels or "may shoot eye out" warnings. It was common sense stuff.

Now...get off my lawn.

I went through the gamut of video game systems back in my day. Started with Nintendo, transitioned to Sega Genesis, then to Sega CD! Of course had Super Nintendo as well. But Playstation and N64 were game-changers, it was like going from the Iowa offense to the Oregon offense. And I think I was one of three people who purchased Sega Dreamcast--I thought it was the best thing ever that you could cruise the web on the Dreamcast thru the TV. Awesome.

Do kids even play with toys anymore? All I see now is kids crying until the parents give them a smart phone or ipad.
