I went through the gamut of video game systems back in my day. Started with Nintendo, transitioned to Sega Genesis, then to Sega CD! Of course had Super Nintendo as well. But Playstation and N64 were game-changers, it was like going from the Iowa offense to the Oregon offense. And I think I was one of three people who purchased Sega Dreamcast--I thought it was the best thing ever that you could cruise the web on the Dreamcast thru the TV. Awesome.

I play Sonic 2 and Mario 64 at least once a year still.

This may very well be one of the most underrated inventions of my lifetime...

My favorite was my Lionel train set, which over the years has grown into a ridiculous collection. I'd pull out the army men and a battle would ensue over the train station (I think I watched too much Hogan's Heroes).

How could I forget the hours I spent with some wooden fencing my grandpa made. Had a farm set (think it was this one)
th

and a ton of small wooden blocks that served as animals. Dad was a vet so we were constantly working them in the "chute" and they were all marked up from crayons like dad would with his livestock markers) We usually set it up like one of the local feedlots or played salebarn. Had a bunch of trucks with trailers and a big semi from my uncle that was a Northrup-King rep that got used heavily.

I kind of feel sorry for kids today. Their toys are as terrible as Missouri leaving the Big 12 for the SEC.

Why does a kid need a toy to make a noise for them...most have mouths that can make noise.

My five year old nephew has a better smart phone than me...which is used exclusively for gaming. Play with some sticks or a box kid.

Back in my day...toys were made of metal and didn't come with choking hazard labels or "may shoot eye out" warnings. It was common sense stuff.

Now...get off my lawn.

Yea, I know my generation had it's fair share of stupid-*** toys, but it seems sad how many of the toys you see now seem to do all the thinking and playing for the kid.

As a kid who was constantly, pathetically afraid of getting pegged by a hard throw, these are probably the only reason I even attempted baseball as a kid.

We would play with them until the seems split, then tape it up with athletic tape and play some more. When that wore out we would duct tape it until it was done... This little invention is probably the main reason five kids from my neighborhood made it into professional baseball.

This is the correct answer, but what kind of Legos?

I was split between the Castle Legos (Had a sweet fire-breathing castle at one point) and space Legos (The best of course being the ice planet ship with detachable pods)

Oh man, the ice planet ship was my absolute favorite! I had tons of legos but when I opened this, I was in shock because it was one of the more expensive ones at the time and I knew my parents would never get me one that much. Thank goodness for grandparents!

In addition to legos, I also had a lot of Micro Machines. Anyone else?

Anyone ever play with Capsela sets? I think these were my parents' attempt to get me to become an engineer.

I forgot about those! I had the airport, parking garage, and house boat too! Cool little toy!
