I liked Thousand Hills golf course down in Tablerock I believe it is.

The course I wish I played was right next to our job site in Maryland called Burning Tree...That and Augusta National are the only two male only Golf clubs in the United States I believe. The course is also private and every few days you'd see a caravan of black escalades travel to the golf course. It was a hotbed for the president, senators, congressmen, and any higher up official in the DC area to golf at. I think membership is 80,000 dollars a year and you had to spend so much money a year there to stay a member I believe.

Burning Tree Club | Burning Tree Golf Course

If you go to this link you can see an aerial view of the golf course, and if you look just south of the furthest south hole, you can see the jobsite!!! You can only imagine where all those old people wanted to live in that Senior Living Condominium...all facing the golf course!!!

Bos Landen in Pella back when it was new and difficult. Now a days they made it a lot easier and have had ownership changes so it isn't as great anymore.

I play a lot of the courses up in Northern Minnesota in the Brainerd area and LOVE them. My favorites in that area are:

Deacons Lodge
The Legacy Courses at Craguns
The Quarry
The Preserve

Probably my favorite course was playing one of the Kapalua courses in Maui where they hold the Mercedes Championship.

I played a couple excellent courses in the Palm Springs area in CA that were amazing. You have the mountains in the background and the views are breathtaking. some of the courses are:

Desert Willow
Escena Golf Club

Any of the Bandon Dunes courses in Oregon:

Bandon Dunes
Pacific Dunes
Pacific Trails

Three of the most beautiful, natural, and difficult courses you'll ever play. Highly recommend them if you're ever in the area. Only problem is that they are 4-5 hours from any major city. So if you go, it's truly for golf only. But worth it.

I think those courses over any others in the USA would top my list of courses I want to play

My friend from High School his dad use to be the President of Bos Landen until one of the green's keepers put weed killer on all the greens and killed them all. They have gone to new ownership like you had mentioned. We use to go to the driving range all the time and nail balls into the pond...but who puts a pond near a driving range? He said they'd clean it out a few times a year and there would be 2 feet deep of balls in the pond :biglaugh:

Is this really about favorite courses or bragging about where you have golfed?

I liked the Landmark course in Palm Springs (or Palm Desert maybe) and the one built by the same people in the rock quarry in Riverside. Cant remember the name of that one at the moment though. The sheer rock faces in there were pretty impressive.

Eagle Mountain's greens give me flashbacks. I swear they are slicker than marble floors. I've played every notable course in the Phoenix area, and Eagle Mountain is the only place I've considered giving up golf.

We played it right after a D-II college tournament once....it was BRUTAL!

Pretty much in order

Whistling Straits..having a caddy was awesome.
Porto Cima in Lake of the Ozarks
Sunridge Mtn. Fountain Hills
Troon North Scottsdale (I actually prefer the Pinnacle course)
Cabo Real
Eagle Mtn. Fountain Hills
The Deacon Brainerd, MN

Whistling Straits is AWESOME... It really doesn't have the feel of Wisconsin considering its right on Lake Michigan... Hole 17 was my favorite.

On the road...
I have played and love a lot of courses in Northern Minnesota: The Legacy Courses at Craguns, The Classic at Madden's, both of the Giant's Ridge Courses. A lot of great courses in Myrtle Beach: Caledonia, True Blue, Grande Dunes (Members and Resort courses) Tiger's Eye, just to name a few. Des Moines Golf and Country Club is my favorite it Iowa, along with TCI, Bos Landen, Coldwater, and Finkbine.

They are impressive. I've only played them in the late fall when the prices drop. The conditions are extremely unpredictable. First time, rained sideways off of the ocean almost the entire time. Problem is, you typically drive in from Portland, which is about 4 1/2 - 5 hrs away. You pretty much play it regardless of the weather.

Second time wasn't bad. Very calm and cool. But a thick fog rolled in and stuck around for several holes. Tough to track the ball when it disappears into the fog.
