Makes it sound like Gene was choice number eleven because he went out of his way to be available.

One thing that i cant imagine coaches dont think about is that the ISU job would have very little pressure (relative to most southern schools and most big name schools) All that most of us like to see is improvement, not immediate conference championships or BCS bowl games. That and the unbelieveably loyal fan base has to be something Pollard sells during interviews.

What do you mean? We expect five wins a year.

yes if thats the improvement, i have a feeling 4 wins next season will look fairly decent.

Only if we lose all of our players and have to hire high schoolers. I have faith in our guys. If they all stay here and train under a decent coach, there is no reason we shouldn't be booking tickets to somewhere warm next year.

You honestly think that we are going to be bowl eligible next year? No reason why? We dont even have a head coach! We won 2 games last year! We cant stop a "high school team" from scoring! Lets lower our expectations we've only gone bowling approx 8 times in our history. (to lazy to look up the actual number)

From what I saw this year, we lost mostly because of 2 things. Mistakes on the field and bad playcalling. The first is fixed by having a team that is older and more mature, something that (hopefully) we will have next year. The second, well Chizik kind of helped us fix that one by leaving. The only time I really ever saw us get beat by a team based just on their athletic ability was when we played Oklahoma State, and to a lesser degree when we played mizzou. Don't get down on the players for the results of bad playcalling. We have a young team that, should they all come back, has the potential for enormous growth.

In 03, we had a 2 win season, much like this year. The next year, we won 7 and went to a bowl. The next year, we went to a bowl again. This year, we won the first two games, much like in 03. Next year, we have about the easiest schedule I have ever seen. THAT is why I think we can go to a bowl next year. There is a precedent for us rising up out of nowhere, that is what cyclones do.

The more I think about it, the more Tubberville makes some sense. He can pay his assistants a decent salary (one of them being former Ankeny resident Paul Rhoades). Plus he would get an opportunity to show Auburn that they made a mistake by "forcing" him out. This chip on his shoulder would undoubtedly make him the hardest working coach in college football. He has virtually no pressure to win and is financially set because of his buyout from Auburn. It is unrealistic but the past few days have shook my confidence in the athletic program forever.

Thats funny, because I just watched Sports Center and Kirk said that was a great hire for Auburn, and the Tigers were lucky to have him...

If we got Tuberville it would be the most remarkable thing to happen to ISU football

Most? IDK, but it COULD be the start of something special for a fanbase that deserves something better. Just wishful thinking though...but I do agree with that line, Pollard has to make the call no matter how impossible it seems Tommy will be a Cyclone.

I couldn't help but post in that thread:

Hey Chizik - why don't you do us Cyclone fans a favor for once and take Bolt and McFarlane with you to Auburn. I'm sure they'll coach better with better talent :% Seriously - who runs an option play first and goal at the 1 yard line with 3 seconds left in the game and down by four (this is the Colorado game I'm referring to). The Colorado defense KNEW it was coming and stacked their defense to that side, and our runner ran straight into the waiting defense with that one! Who the hell doesn't go straight up the middle with that? Yeah, maybe we might have gotten stuffed - but at least we wouldn't look like a bunch of pansy-***** with that play we ran. And let's not even get started on the defense. We simply didn't have the personnel to play the Tampa 2 effectively, and yet that one got forced down our throats. What did that result in? Only one of the worst defenses in America.
Auburn fans, I really feel for you. I know the 99% of the sane fans down there wanted nothing to do with this guy. I just can't help but think your AD and boosters just did us this gigantic favor. Our football program is going to be better because of your AD's and boosters' pure insanity/stupidity.
