Eight flawed teams that are dangerous enough to win a title

Yep, I posted this just so people could nitpick the team's deficiency.

Yep, that was the intent.
I added an offhanded comment that there was one more thing he could have said that has been a problem and everyone jumped me claiming it wasn't a problem. I was simply trying to demonstrate with actual statistics that it is still a problem. Sorry it highjacked your thread.

No problem. I just thought it was a really nice list to be a part of, and was hoping to spark some positivity.

I really can't figure out why people have such a hard time remembering this group is really damn young and youth breads inconsistency. Might as well relax and enjoy the fun moments and chill when we're having an off night.

I cringe whenever I hear someone talk about "consistency" in sports, when they really mean "good". Saying "Why can't we be more consistent?" is really implying "why can't we be good all the time?" You are incredibly consistent if you lose every game. Not to mention inconsistency is part of the very nature of sports. If you got the same quality of performance every time out, games would be boring as hell.

For what it's worth, I thought it was awesome to be included on that list.
As for rebounding, it's weird, I think of each individual that plays and, with the possible exception of TH, they all seem to be decent rebounders. I guess Shayok might be the only one getting any offensive boards.

I for one would not be bored if ISU won every game the rest of the way. :)

College kids are rarely consistent.

I think what I'd like to see is if this group can get their roles solidified and see what comes of it.

I feel like this team is just like Hoiberg's last team. 2014-2015. Incredibly high ceiling (won Big 12 Tournament and could have won NCAA Tournament) but really low floor too (regular season losses to bad Tech/K-State teams and first round loss to UAB).
Except this years team hasn’t grabbed a loss nearly as bad as those losses that year. Don’t forget losing to a really bad South Carolina team as well that year.

If Lard gets his head on his shoulders they can get back to Elite 8 for first time in 19 years. If not this is likely a team medium rare done well before that. All about match-ups. Gonzaga is in my eyes best team. Won't be happy if we play them early.

Watching Mich. State tonight rebound the basketball was a treat, and something that ISU has been missing for years. Rebounding is attitude and desire more than anything else. We do a horrible job boxing out, putting a body on a man and positioning.

How many times this year have we had a player to two in position to get a rebound and then not get it because the other guy out hustled us and wanted it more?

Good team are decent rebounding teams, great teams look at every missed shot as a chance to get the ball, that is what we are missing, and really have since the Larry E. years.

This may be construed as negative or pessimistic, but I consider it "cautiously realistic." This can be a Sweet 16 team. National title, or even Final Four, I don't think we're quite to that level this season.

I'd love to eat crow, of course.

I actually think we rebound well for a team that plays four guards. Defense is the key with this team. If we get stops/steals it leads to a faster paced game. This is when we are playing at our best.

This team has a lot of potential. It would be nice to win the Big 12, but with our youth it is more important to continue to improve and be playing well come NCAA tourney time.

I agree. When we are able to get clean rebounds that's when we can push pace. Our rebounding isn't as poor as everyone is making it out to be.

Here's the thing, ISU has more pro potential on the roster than most any team in the nation. Due to suspensions and injuries ISU still hasn't played their best basket ball but are getting better each game. THT is close to breaking out of his minor slump and adjusting to B12. LW and Lard will be next. I'll put ISU's top 8 up against any team in the nation, and is the reason the writer had ISU in the top 8.
Even with the disappointing loss at KU it was ties with less than 2 minutes left. Depending on matchups ISU is as much of a threat outside of Duke to get to the finals. No body should predict a final four run at this point but I wouldn't count out a UCONN or Loyola) type run in the tourney

This is a terrible comparison though. Iowa State was in good position most of the night but just got beat on the boards by a much more lengthy and athletic team last night. I don't care how good Iowa State's technique or fundamentals were, Baylor kills them on the glass 10 times out of 10.
The comparison was mainly to show that offensive boards are killers if your opponent is getting a bunch of them. Whether it's technique or not, giving your opponent extra shots is never a good thing.
