Yeah I had seen that before. Amazing what lots of money can do. The world is starving and fighting over oil in so many places, but Dubai builds a new world because they have more money than they know what to do with.

It's only a matter of time until Dubai becomes a wasteland and the desert retakes that land - they'll run out of money eventually and Dubai will be remembered for how stupid and wasteful mankind can be - despite the cool buildings.

Many problems that I see with that including the fact that it would never move as fast as it appears to move in the clip. You would have severe problems with people getting sick and personal property getting damaged if the building made adjustments like that.

Secondly, getting utilities to moving targets would be very costly and unreliable.

Just my 2 cents...

Well said. Dubai is built on a shaky foundation both literally and figuratively.

By the title of the you tube clip I thought they were actually moving a skyscraper (you know, one place to another).

I've seen articles about some of these before. I believe there is also one is Sweden. If I understand correctly, some of them will actually generate their own electricity because they are essentially a big wind turbine.

Dubai is throwing all their money at building a tourism industry because they know the oil money will be gone soon and they want something to fall back on.

This.

Dubai is actually being relatively smart, IMO. They are basically trying to turn it into Disney world on steroids, trying to attract sustainable industry so that when the oil does run out, they don't go back to the stone age like their neighbors likely will.

It's futile...their stone-age neighbors will see to that. See Lebanon circa 1970....
