I tried to find the thread from a while back asking which would happen first but...

CNN is reporting the Dow drops below 8000 at the closing bell

I'm not a big stock guy but what was it's peak? Wasn't it like 12k? Or am I way off there?

If you have money, start buying. There are bargains out there that will never been seen again.

Find solid companies with low P/E's that offer dividends and you can't lose in the long term.

14,164 or something like that.

When was that? I mean if you look at it that's like a near 50% decrease in wealth. That's astounding.

I think it peaked close to 14K about 13 months ago.

If you have any cash at all I say buy buy buy!!! Unbelievable bargains right now. If you have a 401K put 100% allocation in stocks and up your contribution level....you will thank yourself 5 - 10 years from now.........

Hmm, a certain local University here had 100% of their endowment in stocks. Bet they are sweating a little.

Harvard?

They are sweating. I saw a letter sent out to their alumni talking about how it's affecting what undergraduates will have to pay for tuition.

It doesn't take much. Find yourself a financial advisor and start putting $50 or a $100 a month into a mutual fund. You'll be happy you did it in the long run. I work with Ameriprise--just met with my advisor today, in fact.

I personally don't think it's bottomed yet. Still too much uncertainty about the bailout details and the proposed bailout of the auto industry. But it's got to be getting close. I think Friday will be a key day - we'll see who's willing to hold on to positions over the weekend.

That is idiotic. Whoever is managing that endowment should be fired (if they aren't already).

Yeah well, I wont go into it on here, but you are right. Highly political around these parts with that president.
