Saw an analysis someone else shared a while back. He gets large % of his buckets in transition. Will have to work on his jump shot, but he'll be in focus town now for a while so improvement should take care of itself (eh, DeAndre Kane?).

Honestly that would be a great addition if a run out is a strength.

I don’t believe Gilbert shot a great % from 3 at UNLV and improved quite a bit here. Hopefully Nelson will do the same with the “Shot Doctors” at ISU!! Worked for Lipsey as well

Gilbert's best percentage was at UNLV (38%) his sophomore year. 34% as a jr 33% as a sr.

I don't expect Nelson to get better from 3 quickly, especially this season. Usually you go down quite a few percentage when you level up conferences, especially the first year. The only thing that usually translates is defense and rebounds since that is less on skill and more on hustle/will power. Obviously there are exceptions and no doubt, they will get brought up, but getting worse percentage wise is pretty typical from transfers moving up.

I agree. Fans expect way too much improvement when it comes to shooting. At this point in a college player's career, you pretty much are what you are from a shooting perspective. It's rare to see big jumps like Lipsey had his sophomore year. If he shoots 33% from three on low attempts, I think that would be a win.

Fix this man's shot, get him in the weight room, and you have something. Pretty smooth slithering through traffic and finishing.

Looks like his shot has a "hitch" before he lets it go. I assume he does the same thing at the FT line. I doubt that is something you fix. I assume Otz and staff will have to live with it.

That said... love the ability to get to the rim. That will play. I would push him to develop a floater before working on the three. That was the key between Jones and Gilbert.

This is actually a great get.

Thanks to you Brent if you had anything to do with it.
Thank you! It’s a bit frustrating to see those that have messaged me that the kid isn’t good enough. But we roll on knowing TJ and staff are super pumped! And as always, appreciate any support of We Will to keep things moving.

Yeah. 3pt catch and shoot should/has to improve with coaching and practice. His release needs to get a lot quicker.

But as a slasher? To me he looks elite in that area already: Super quick 1st step and great overall speed running the court on the break. I anticipate some serious crowd pleasing finishes from him at Hilton. I like this get.

Unbelievable, unfortunately it’s actually not unbelievable, that anyone would message you that the kid is not “good enough”. Sad commentary on where we are at that this happens!! Go find a hobby or go back to your parent’s basement, but please go do something else besides criticizing a college kid who hasn’t even set foot on campus yet!! Great get by the staff and good job by you to raise the money!!

I think he gets better because he is not the man. Not who the defense is trying to stop. When you are the man and the defense just is concentrating on you it’s harder to get your shot off. We shall see
