If this is who Mangino wants, then I will take him. I just think there are more pressing issues to address.

I see what you're saying and I agree but DeLira will likely redshirt in 2015.
And I'm not going to say I have any proof to this theory but I could see Richardson try hard to graduate and transfer for his final year after the 2014 season if he loses the starting job to Rohach.
Mangino had options of several QBs after we missed on Burrow, some with more offers and stars. This kid flat out beat them all when it came to throwing in a pressure situation. Not very often ISU can say it had its pick of QBs, but Mangino did here (minus Burrows obviously).
One of the others was a big kid with tons of athletic ability, but Mangino offered a kid that could throw it all over. Probably tells you what he wants to do to some extent.

I'd bet absolutely anything this kid is a 3 star by signing day. And maybe even a mid-high level one.
Seriously, this is what happened:
Mangino wanted Burrow (who is a top level quarterback in the nation, an OSU offer, ect) and had a great shot at him until OSU offered.
Then Mangino picked out his next 5 or 6 options and had them all compete for the offer, and DeLira was the winner and committed instantly.
Do you really think that Mark Mangino's hand picked quarterback committing instantly isn't something to be excited about?
Recruiting services do as good of a job as they can do and over enough prospects rankings are indicative of on field performance, but when mark Mangino is picking out a QB that is a specific situation where the lack of a ranking couldn't be more irrelevant.
Which leads me to my last point and full circle, rivals hasn't even evaluated this kid yet. Just bookmark this thread, and check it after his senior season is over and rivals is done withe evaluations.

The kid has an entire year to gain weight, get faster, etc. Wanna know some of the recent QB's to come out of Lake Travis? Todd Reesing (Who papa Mangino coached), Garrett Gilbert (was the #1 QB out of Texas, maybe in the country..before flopping at UT then ending up at SMU) Michael Brewer (Tech QB) and Baker Mayfield (former Tech QB, now about to kill it at OU). Sound like the kid comes from a good tree of QB's, I think the coaches knew what they were doing with this one.
Bates played wide receiver. Some qbs could switch positions like Iowa has done.
I know they can switch positions, but then why not just recruit players at the actual position?
Looks like he has solid footwork, and for a smaller guy he really put some zip on the ball on some of those passes. Could be a pretty good player in a couple years.

This. Here's a kid who grew up running the spread. The learning curve is going to be short. We also have to consider that Mangino should have the right to bring in his own QB if his job depends on the offense producing. There will always be transfers and position changes. I'm happy that Mangino got to see all of his top choices throw in person and picked the one he thought would be most successful. He grabbed Reesing when no one else wanted him and that turned out pretty well.
Because QB is the most important position. And QB's are generally great athletes that even if they do not end up at QB they can play somewhere else. It is a strength in numbers thing of increasing your odds of finding that good QB.
