How come DirecTV has not just gone ahead and paid what the Pac 12 wants for its network then? Why do you have to wait for SEC Network and WATCH ESPN until the end of the year or soon after? I thought DirecTV is willing to pay the higher fees because they don't sell on price even though a trip to the front page of their website claims completely different.

As I said, this isn't a Dish Network vs. DirecTV debate. If anything, the lines become more blurred because there are certain back door allegiances between the major networks and the carriers. It wasn't too long ago New Corp owned DirecTV which is the principal owner of the Fox Networks.

The SEC Net is on my Direct right now so I don't know what you mean.

Dish is trying to gain an advantage by grabbing a few of these networks but overall they get into far more situations where they drop channels or lose them for periods of time over money.

Dish Network is still around? I guess poor people like satellite TV, too.
I can't believe someone would be so emotional about a cable/satellite provider as to need to insult its customers.

wow....nice post.....Dish has the best hardware in the business. Just because I can't get the MLB pack and Sunday ticket doesn't make others better.. I like the twins (on fox sports north) and the Vikings.
Dont need it.

and you will have to trust me....far from poor.

Agreed, HandSanitizer.

I've had both and was perfectly happy with Dish but DirecTV just meets my wants better. Certainly wouldn't begrudge anyone who likes Dish better.

I bet there will be a ton of people next Saturday with Dish who know that the game is on FS1 and that they have FS1, who will be very unhappy when they flip the channel there and don't see football.

I hope at least a couple of them are those that on past threads when people were asking for honest advice about which provider to select, would reckless advise that there was no downside going with Dish. The facts (as illustrated here once again) DISH should be your LAST choice (at least in central Iowa) IF assuring greatest access to ISU televised events is one of you main goals. Every season, there is at least one or more games that Dish customers get screwed over on. Note: if you attend all the home games, this maybe less noticeable to you.

IMO, if NFL ticket is a greater priority than cyclone.tv, go with DirectTV. If not, Mediacom. Dish provides the least attractive reasons to be selected if ISU is important to you.

What DirecTV channel will you be watching the Iowa State @ Texas game this season? Dish Network subscribers can tune into channel 407 in HD.

It's very possible Dish Network and Fox Sports One work things out by Saturday so there won't be a single game this season that Dish subscribers will miss. I'm not sure the same thing is the case for LHN and DirecTV.

This isn't a Dish vs. DirecTV thing. Both services get into these feuds. It's done to try and keep costs as low as possible. Dish started offering WatchESPN access as well as several other channels (LHN, SEC, PAC 12) that DirecTV doesn't.
Hey, thanks for the tip. I recently switched from DirecTV to Dish, and I had no idea I could get WatchESPN now!

I'll happily hit a sports bar for that one.

My comment wasn't about Mediacom so much as it was a chance to call out the Dish apologists who for the life of them, can never remember missing out on a game despite the evidence littering the forums every season. That's fine if they are doing it to themselves, but it is less-than-helpful when someone is asking for options, yet people trying to justify their own past decisions, want to downplay that this is a real consideration. (Or should I say, it is a real consideration for those who see the value in having as many eyeballs watching ISU as possible.)

I would like to know what games were missed actually. I have been a dish customer for years, and I don't know the answer to this. I have had season tickets for years, so I will admit I may not have noticed a home game that wasn't broadcast. I know I had considered changing because ESPN U wasn't broadcast in HD. I remember missing the season opener to Walking Dead during Dish's spat with AMC. But I would like to know what games I missed out on because of some kind of dispute otherwise? Honestly the biggest dispute I remember involving an ISU game was when Mediacom was holding out against the B1G network before the ISU v Iowa game. I'm not saying you're wrong, just curious what games Dish network viewers missed out on due to similar circumstances to their current issues with Fox1?

yeah...as I mentioned earlier, it is less noticable if you have season tix because a few over the last few years have been home games. You can search the threads (could be in "off topic" too) if you want specifics, but top of my head I can recall games on Fox College Sports (note: not Fox Sports Channel) and maybe CBS Sports? channels. I don't think they were disputes so much as Dish either didn't carry the channel or they chose different games.

Those with Dish should focus their anger at Fox, not Dish.

Dish and Fox have an agreement in place for FS1. Now Fox wants additional $ from Dish above what has already been agreed upon to air the games.

I'm really frustrated that I won't get the game, but this just solidifies why I have Dish - they're willing to fight to keep my prices low. One game won't change my opinion. I'll never go back to Direct TV and pay significantly more for an equal (at best) product.

Frustrated emails should be sent to Fox, not Dish. I plan on sending a thank you email to Dish!

Someone gets it!

The only ones that I remember were basketball a couple years ago. There was some deal that the Eastern Iowa station wasn't going to show the game and Dish blacked it out on the FSN channel that also had it. There was also a Texas game on the LHN that no one got.

Both of these issues have been resolved with the new BigXII contract and Dish getting the LHN.

I'm still ****** about this situation, but it's still not to the point that I'm willing to give up my hopper for a genie. The live streaming alone would be a deal breaker.

I called up dish yesterday and complained a little and they gave me 10 dollars off for the next 6 months plus 3 months of the sports pack free. The guy also made it sound like there would be a deal in place by Saturday but that may or may not be true.

I ended the the call fairly happy though.

I just called and only got $5 for 3 months. Chick was clueless about anything I was saying. It's not a huge deal since I will be at the games but I won't be able to record them and watch them later. Stupid that I can't watch the games I want to see on a channel I already pay for.

I believe only Dish has it right now.

I didn't see ESPN News or ESPN U on your list. I'm pretty sure ISU will have a football game on the U this season and several basketball games. Does Dish not have ESPN U? What about the golf channel? I watch a lot of golf!

Doubt any football games will be on the U.

Yeah the first person in line is always clueless. I had to ask to speak with an "account specialist" before they know anything or can do anything of value.

I'm really hoping its resolved by Saturday otherwise it looks like I will be scrambling for a feed.
