Bet on the Hawks to buy 10,000 tickets against Drake. (They are pathetic)

I still think we got ripped. I remember on radio they announced over 10,000 there.

Yes.... I'm still bitter too...

What is there to do downtown? Not sure if I'll be here or NW Iowa.

I don't know about being ripped, but I lost 122,000 on it.

Not big NYE party-goers.

But we're headed to one this year that will certainly provide some excitement.

Over the last couple of years the wife and I have started a new tradition where we get our friends that have kids to come over to our place. The wife makes a TON of food and we all hang out. The kids go down in the family room and tear it down, the adults hang out upstairs and have a few cocktails. It has been a fun and cheap way to celebrate the new year.

I can remember like 2 times in my life I ever had any fun going out on New Years. You usually spend a ton of money to stand in a smokey bar and yell at each other to hear over the noise.

A couple years ago, my wife and I went with some friends up to the Twin Cities and got some hotel rooms, went out to eat, ice skated and saw fireworks over the Mississipi. That was before any kids. I don't see anything happening like that in the near future. When I was growing up, my parents' group of friends (5 couples) would get a block of hotel rooms and then would let us young bucks have the run of the place while they got hammered in 1 of their rooms.

IMO- New Years Eve is one of the most over-rated holidays of the year. OUI's scare the crap out of me, cabs are impossible on NYE (or any other night in DSM), hotel and party packages are just not my thing if I stay in town, and every bar I've ever been to on NYE is packed to the rafters and impossible to get drinks.

I'll just go to bed early so I can get drunk and watch football the next day.

reminds me a of a long time ago, our kids and their cousins were probably ages 4 - 6 years old. We too had the basement fixed up for kids only. Sent them down there for a short time with our new Basset Hound. Short time, I mean 3 or 4 minutes. Then I went down to supervise... dog had crapped and EVERY kid ignored it and continued playing. Crap on the floor, crap on the walls, crap on EVERY kid. Crap on their clothes. Had to strip the kids, do laundry for our visiting guests and abandoned all activities in the basement for the weekend. And never had the dog go downstairs again ever.

New Year's Eve is something I look forward to every year. I travel to Las Vegas, hang-out with friends there, and have a very enjoyable time.
