Derrick Williams Vs. Royce White

Who would win? Who has seen a practice with Royce in the mix? Is he the same type of player? Does he have the same skill set? I guess I was really impressed with Williams and have never seen Royce play. Maybe I am a bit hopeful, dare I say optimistic, that we will have talent like that on the floor next year...
Any insight would be excellent. Thanks in advance!

I'm assuming considering that Williams is a lottery pick, he'd destroy White.

Also, I doubt White shoots about 60% from behind the arch...

I just know a lot of people rip and roar because we do not have a "true post" player lined up (yet) for next year, but Arizona, Kansas, And UConn have all made it deep in the tourney with a bunch of very talented 6-8 to 6-10 players that have skills like Williams. If White and Booker are as talented as many people claim, I am not worried about next year when we couple them with Godfrey and Ejim. I just haven't actually seen them play so I am hoping someone can give me an idea where they would line up or compare to some other players out there.

I hope he has a similar style of game as Williams, but it gonna be hard for him to be as good. Williams is gonna be a top 3 pick.

Derrick Williams was the lowest regarded (and rated) player in Arizona's 5 commit class in '09. He was a 3 star 6'7", 210# power forward, and he didn't commit until the end of June. He wasn't ranked by Rivals, although he had several offers from major conference schools, his offer list wasn't tremendous.

Just keep that in mind when evaluating ISU recruits: stars really don't matter.

Whoa - I heard tonight that Williams was a Tim Floyd recruit at USC, until the chit hit the fan.

TF sure can recruit!

+ Marcus Fizer
+ Mike Nurse
+Kelvin Cato
+ Tim Hardaway

etc, etc, etc

That's the exception, not the rule. For every 3 star that becomes a lottery pick, I can give you several 5 stars that have.

That whole Tim Floyd recruiting class was poached by Arizona, and is now leading them deep into the tourney. I still think they should have lost to Texas, but they proved themselves against Duke.

The lottery is a VERY poor judge of collegiate ability. And it's certainly not a rare exception.

Jimmer Fredette: 3 star.

Erving Walker was a 3 star and the lowest rated player in Florida's '08 class. He's also the only player from that class to see the floor today.

Josh Harrelson is pretty much the only 3 star on Kentucky's roster, yet he's been their second best player.

Justin Harper from Richmond, who will play in the NBA, was a 2 star.

Kenneth Faried wasn't ranked by rivals, and he'll be a lottery pick.

Those are just the players who've been in the news this weekend. I could go on and on and on.

If these are the comparisons Royce is already dealing with, then he is screwed. Please - lower your expectations and hope for the best. It is unfair to compare him to one of the top 5 players in the entire country when we haven't seen him play ball yet.

CW is flattered, but Royce will not be screwed because of anything on CF.

It will not affect Royce, but it will affect our expectations and levels of disappointment/excitement. I have no doubt that he will do as best as he can no matter what anyone in the internet/media/whatever says about him, but I don't want to hear people complaining if he is "only" averaging 10 and 6 next year and isn't scoring 25 in the first half against Duke while leading us to the Elite 8.
