Seems like a solid get.

Nice little refresher on him from the Texans site:

Deon Broomfield enters his first season as a defensive assistant with the Houston Texans in 2020. A five-year coaching veteran on the collegiate level, Broomfield also played one season in the NFL after a standout college career.

Broomfield comes to Houston after three years coaching cornerbacks at Indiana State and one in the same role at Western Illinois. He broke into the coaching ranks as the safeties coach at Carthage College in Kenosha, Wis. during the 2015 season.

Broomfield spent one season in the NFL as a player, signing with the Buffalo Bills following the 2014 NFL Draft. He contributed on the practice squad to a Bills team that went 9-7, marking Buffalo's first winning season since 2004.

A four-year contributor during his collegiate career at Iowa State, Broomfield played in all 50 games from 2010-13 and made 18 starts at safety. He notched career totals of 133 tackles, 16 pass breakups, forced four fumbles and three interceptions. His signature moment came up in the Cyclones' 2011 upset win over No. 2 Oklahoma State, when he made a key third-down stop that set up an OSU missed field goal and sent the game into overtime.

Broomfield earned his bachelor's degree from ISU in liberal studies with an emphasis in family and child services. Originally from Palm Bay, Fla., he now resides in Houston.

That's awesome. Really liked him as a player. Would be cool if Heacock's tutelage got him to the point of being able to take over as DC when the Professor retires.

That said, I kinda get the impression that Rasheed is being groomed to be the next DC.
The person who follows Heacock is a pretty critical hire for our program. I'd be all for Eli Rasheed too. He has earned his stripes and then some. I can't think of a bigger positive shift in terms of our talent and production of our D Line in the context of all position groups (in program history).

I forgot he was coaching, and didn’t realize he was with the Houston Texans last year. Good hire!

Yeah, if I wasn't clear about it in the other post, I'd be very happy if Eli Rasheed is our next DC. He's done great work with the defensive line, and he's been with Campbell for a long time. It just makes a ton of sense.

If Scheelhaase stays around, I think he's eventually going to be the OC if Manning moves on again.

A lot of those Rhoads era players are in coaching. Broomfield obviously. But Jacques Washington is as well. Roosevelt Maggit is. Jeremiah George was at Texas.

Maybe that’s pretty common but it seems like a lot and that’s all I know from Twitter.
