Anybody seen Batman yet? I won't be able to see it until Tuesday, but curious other people's thoughts.

I saw it last night at one of the Fan First screenings. Overall I liked it a lot. For someone like myself that reads the comics and plays the Arkham video games, it's a great homage to those mediums. I think its a notch below Batman Begins and Dark Knight but solid nonetheless.

I just played Arkham Knight and loved it.

I want to watch this movie but at 3 hours I’ll probably wait. I’ve heard good things though based on the podcasts.

Anyone who goes to an AMC theater, check out this deluxe popcorn bucket we worked on, I think it might have been sold out in lots of locations because fair amount listed on ebay already.

The mouth area is empty but the eyes are actually clear so technically should be popcorn showing through haha.

Started work on this a looooooong time ago pre covid and cool to see it finally out and that world events (covid, energy shutdowns, wars) somehow didn't interfere.

I saw The Batman yesterday and was extremely happy with it. Batman is my favorite superhero so I was going in completely open to what they were going to throw at me while hoping they didnt mess it up. Still digesting but I like it as the best Batman movie made thus far. Its dark and gritty which is what I want from Batman. The music is well done also.

Its 3 hours but doesnt feel like it. To me thats a sign of a good movie.

I saw it on Friday and absolutely loved it. Finally got to show a bit more of the detective side of Batman. Colin Farrell was awesome as the Penguin, and I thought Zoe Kravitz and Pattison crushed it as Catwoman and Batman. Highly recommend it

I really wanted to like it even though I knew I wasn't going to dig the new emo look and dark esthetic of the movie, I just didn't. It started out alright, as I was actually quite digging the detective-centric first half of the movie and all the build-up. Trouble is that past that, the movie really started to drag, get boring, and was overly long. It also didn't help when all this long build-up led to a third act finale which just didn't really pay off for me. I get the symbolism and what the story was going for, but it just didn't work super well for me. Overall, I found the acting performances to be quite good and Pattinson to be a fine enough Batman, but everything else just didn't work whether that be the story, the darkness, the Batman look and costume, or the Batmobile. As the movie progressed, I couldn't help longing much more for what could have been the Ben Affleck directed Batman movie rather than this one. It's really too bad, as I know I'm likely in the minority on this one, and I'm actually a really big Matt Reeves fan. Oh well I guess. With that said at this moment, Affleck is still my favorite Batman and the Nolan trilogy are my favorite Batman movies.

There were things I really, really liked. There were some things I think just didn't work.

Positives:

• Zoe Kravitz as Catwoman was absolutely outstanding. I thought that whole arc was great. It's the perfect way to have Catwoman/Batman team up, with like somewhat overlapping goals but she prioritized her own which is exactly how it would go down.
• This might be a hot take, I don't know, but I absolutely loved the batmobile/batsuit/fighting style/etc. It's the best iteration of Batman for me with that stuff. I love a menacing Batman. I love a Batman that freaks people out. I loved the heavy boots/spurs sound of him walking. I loved the soundtrack which was basically two tones for Batman's music. All that worked for me to a very high degree.
• The detective/solving the case stuff was great.

Negatives:

• Superhero movies typically have a real problem with ending. This movie ends like 4 times. I understand what they were doing with each one, but my goodness I was basically done each time. There was a lot in there that just didn't work either.
• Bruce Wayne is basically a non-factor, or he was onscreen and he was an absolute **** to Alfred. I think they are setting him up to be a much bigger part of the story next movie, that's obvious.
• I'm sorry to go along with the first point here it is just too long. That was a problem in the writing and directing. They needed a way to tell the story in a more concise way.

Random thoughts:

• I think the emo Bruce thing is overblown. He's a young person in pain. He's not sure the things he's doing are having any effect. I get the mentality honestly and I thought they did a good job with it.
• Biggest upset of the movie is me getting a 32 oz beer before the screening and not having to pee during the course of the movie. That was like a #16 over a #1. 3 hours people! Truly amazing.

Spoiler: Some Spoilery things I really liked

• I really liked the fight scene where Batman is fighting the guys with the machine guns in the dark room, and the only light was the muzzle flashes from them firing. Just looked super cool.
• Same with Batman entrance to the Penguin club the first time, just shot really well. and looked awesome.
• I thought it was cool in a year 2 movie how Batman was super scared to jump off GCPD building.
• Batman's emergence the first time we see him is great IMO, hearing him before we see him.
• I love the batmobile. Thing was like a glowing demon car.

ahhhhhhhh....... what could have been........... I know it all comes down to personal preference, but the Batfleck BvS suit to me was the pinnacle of perfection, functionality, and comic inspiration. I personally do not like the Pattinson suit at all, but recognize many people do, so I respect that.

I saw it last night, and honestly I really enjoyed it but it is seriously problematic.

I mean this in all seriousness but man Warner Bros and DC have just gotten seriously unlucky with some casting stuff. This guy is one of the main tentpoles in the DC universe and is also basically a huge cog on their ongoing Harry Potter spin offs. Cast Batfleck who I think did a good job but had some personal demons going on at the same time. Get what sounds like a borderline crazy Joss Whedon to poison what should have been a big deal to them with the Justice League. Great casting with Cavill who they basically threw away by taking forever to get their stuff going. Man of Steel came out 9 years ago! It came out before Thor the Dark World, which seems like an absolute million years ago.

Interesting article. Looks like tensions are growing between new WB President David Zaslav and AJ Abrams' Bad Robot over the really high-priced deal for them to produce content for WB. Ultimately, it looks like David isn't happy that for all the money they are spending ($250 million) on their production deal, they have gotten very little actual product out of it, all the while earmarking and tying up multiple DC characters in the process. Truthfully, I've personally loved what Zaslav has done since taking over WB. That studio was becoming a mess and he is doing his best to clean it up. As much as I actually like JJ Abrams, I thought the ridiculous deal WB struck with Bad Robot was super stupid on their part in the first place. It wasn't even an exclusive deal meaning Bad Robot can do as many other projects as they like, and if it isn't exclusive, why the heck sign a deal like that????? Just do stuff on an al a carte basis with Bad Robot like everyone else like Paramount and Netflix are doing. At least with that, you for sure get what you are paying for. I'd be pissed too if I struck that deal and JJ seems to be spending more time and effort on others than WB. The ax of Zaslav is swinging, and as far as I'm concerned, keep it swinging.
