Interesting how Warner Discovery is finally making some big executive moves, while some big decisions still loom ahead, particularly who will lead the new DC division. I do like how they are modeling their vertical division like Disney FINALLY. It has been a long-time coming. The only thing in there I'm not sure I'm crazy about and seemed to come out of left field was asking Todd Phillips to do more in the DC Universe, who really has very little knowledge of DC at all or even interest in the past. I remember listening to interviews with him ahead of the release of Joker and he self-admitted he didn't really care about comics or DC, but rather was just compelled by the story of the Joker is all. Regardless, its hard to tell how much or to what extent he would be involved even if he is interested in it. To me, that hire of the head of the new DC division is key. Kevin Feige's don't exactly grow on trees, so it will be a tough task.

Interesting article. Looks like tensions are growing between new WB President David Zaslav and AJ Abrams' Bad Robot over the really high-priced deal for them to produce content for WB. Ultimately, it looks like David isn't happy that for all the money they are spending ($250 million) on their production deal, they have gotten very little actual product out of it, all the while earmarking and tying up multiple DC characters in the process. Truthfully, I've personally loved what Zaslav has done since taking over WB. That studio was becoming a mess and he is doing his best to clean it up. As much as I actually like JJ Abrams, I thought the ridiculous deal WB struck with Bad Robot was super stupid on their part in the first place. It wasn't even an exclusive deal meaning Bad Robot can do as many other projects as they like, and if it isn't exclusive, why the heck sign a deal like that????? Just do stuff on an al a carte basis with Bad Robot like everyone else like Paramount and Netflix are doing. At least with that, you for sure get what you are paying for. I'd be pissed too if I struck that deal and JJ seems to be spending more time and effort on others than WB. The ax of Zaslav is swinging, and as far as I'm concerned, keep it swinging.

I mean this with all due respect, but what is the best thing JJ Abrams has ever made? What are the top 3 things? I mean a 250 million production deal just seems nuts to me.

I'm actually a really big fan of all his new Star Trek movies and consider those his best stuff, but $250 million was stupid. I've heard some rumors WB is trying to find legal ways to get out of the deal altogether.

I mean you can make a lot of stuff for 250 million. He's getting that 250 million to just agree to make stuff, that they'll have to pay for on top of that. Just seems insane.

But I agree I like those Trek movies, especially the first one.

Interesting update on The Flash movie and all its controversies. The part I found most intriguing was how good the movie has shown in test screenings so far and how much confidence WB has that the movie is actually good. Frankly, I was anticipating this movie to be somewhat of a disaster, so if true, I may be pleasantly surprised. Regardless, it seems like the odds of a recast and reshoot of the movie are pretty much nill.

Lost is probably the right answer but he's made a few Mission Impossible movies that I liked

When something scandalous comes out about an actor, I'm never surprised anymore. So many people make crap choices to begin with. Add fame to the mix, and it's an ugly multiplier. It is kind of refreshing when they have to suffer consequences for ****** behavior. It keeps younger people from putting them on pedestals.

I may be in the minority, but I really don't pay any attention to actor's personal lives. I'm content with the fact that they are all just doing a job. I only learned about Miller's issues through this thread. It's unfortunate, because I actually liked him in several different roles.

I'm in the boat where I can easily separate someone's personal misgivings from their work in most cases, but I get that a lot of other people aren't that way. The perfect example would be the Depp-Heard fiasco. Regardless of what I think about each of them or the outcome, I'd watch more movies with either of them in it. It just doesn't bother me.

I agree. I find it easy to separate the two, I don’t expect every actor to be some paragon of virtue. Kevin Spacey is by all accounts a ******* creep, but that doesn’t change the fact that he’s one of the best actors of all time. I don’t celebrate the man, but I can appreciate the talent.

The whole Depp/Heard case to me just proved that they’re both terrible people, which I would’ve guessed before anyway.

I agree. I find it laughable how everyone seems to choose a side where the one person is a saint and the other a villain. Based on what I've seen, they both have done some pretty awful stuff, but both seem to want to claim purely victim status. Regardless, whatever, if someone wants to hire them for a movie, I'll see it, even if I think Heard is a marginal actress at best and Depp lets his outside extra curriculars prohibit him from being as good as he once was.

Don't know which thread to put this in, but this article claims that back when Feige was at odds with Marvel's Ike Perlmutter, he did have some discussions with DC. I can't say I'm surprised. It also claims that DC has reached out to head Marvel exec D'Esposito and others as well to no avail so far. As Zaslov works to build his new DC studio, I remain super intrigued to see who to see who they go after to lead it all. As of right now, I'd be nervous if I was Disney's CEO. It doesn't help either that Zaslov is getting advised right now by both Alan Horne and to a lesser extent Bob Iger. I'm a big fan of both DC and Marvel, so I'm always torn on what I want.

I hope stuff like this is true. I'm a monstrous Cavill and Superman fan. I'd love nothing more than to see the shared DCEU come back in some form with good coordinated leadership at the top.

This sounds like maybe the worst idea I've ever heard.

It may be an unpopular opinion, but I just didn't care for the Joker movie. Sure, it was a well made movie, but just not to my tastes or direction I wanted to see DC go with things. Its just that simple. At that same time, the movie made a boatload of money on a small budget and won some awards. Good on it and I'm happy for those who liked it.. Still doesn't change my lack of desire to see a sequel, similar to my lack of desire for the first one. Therefore, where it goes with it doesn't really matter that much to me.
